and I want to transfer my important files/folders from my

 

TOSHIBA Satellite L305-S5955

Intel/Celeron 900(2.2GHz)

2GB memory

160GB HDD

32-bit OS

 

How would I go about doing this?

1) Plug a flash drive into a USB port on the old computer, use Windows Explorer to copy your stuff to it, then use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon to remove the flash drive from the old computer.

 

2) Plug the flash drive into a USB port on the new computer, use Windows Explorer to copy your stuff to it, then use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon to remove the flash drive from the new computer.

 

If necesssary, erase what's on the flash drive and then repeat the above two steps until all of your stuff is copied over to the new computer.

If you have a router so both can be running at the same time you can share the entire boot drive on the old computer and then copy everything you want to the new one without using a flash drive.

 

Using a flash drive is simpler though.

@ SpywareDr: I had thought of that but wasn't sure I would be able to transfer some things I really want over to the desktop. I have a Seagate portable HD so I would use that instead.

@ ztruker:I thought there was some way of connecting the two computers together like that. My only problem is my new desktop doesn't seem to want to connect to the router but yet it connected fine to the wireless printer I have. Can I run a usb cable to and from them both?
