My dad, who is 80 and easily confused with the operation of computers, asked me to look at his computer. He said he was checking his email, when his computer "did something" and then came up with a Windows 7 login window. His machine has never been set up for a login window. It showed his name but no password he tried worked. It provided a "Password Hint: kcabssa" and "Reset password". When try the reset password it goes to the "password reset wizard", but says you need a "password reset disk" which we don't have. He says he didn't set this up and doesn't understand how it happened.
Any thoughts on how this happened? Any malware out there that does this type of thing? I've had to clean up his machine before. And most important ... is there a way to get around the login window? We're locked out, as we don't know the password and don't have a reset disk. I tried booting up in safe mode ... but it still comes up requesting a passsword.
Any suggestions/info would be appreciated! Thanks!
