I just finished transferring around 22GB of data to an external hard drive, and now I wanna disconnect it.  When I clicked on the "Safe Removal" icon, I got a message saying, "The device 'Generic volume' cannot be stopped right now.  Try stopping the device later."

Can anybody tell me what to do now?  Can I just pull the plug?  It's been 8 hours!  The device isn't doing anything.  It's just spinning…. idling.  Donno if it's parked though.

Any help will be very much appreciated.  :)

Thanx.
