I have conected my PC to my TV using HDMI from my video card to the HDMI on my TV but the sound will only come from devices connected to my PC i.e. headphones and speaker. When I connect the TV and PC my TV acts as an extention of my monitor, like having them side by side. However, I can get the picture on my TV but no sound.

I have done a lot of searching on Google for a solution but nothing helps. Also, when I right click the "speacker icon", bottom right of my monitier, then "playback devices" only my speackers, headphones and something called "Digital Audio S/PDIF" no idea what this is but when selected still no sound and I am not sure if this was showing before I ever tried to connect my PC and TV.

My TV is an LG 32LD450 (Full HD TV)

My video card is an ASUS R2970X which has an HDMI port which I am using to connect the TV.

OS is Window 8.1

Hope someone can help.

OK Solved - all I had to do was restart my computer in order for my TV to appear on the "playback devices" (right click speaker icon bottom right), selected it and it works perfectly. So simple but took 2 hours to figure out and it is not mentioned in threads with the exact same problem. Anyway, hope this helps someone else.

I have the same " problem ", the picture is being shown on the TV but the sound comes from my PC's speakers.

I spoke to a guy and he told me this might be due to my GPU, that some GPUs cant transfer both picture and audio so they just transfer the picture.

Is that true ?

Yes Vlad.  That is true.  Especially with laptops, audio over hdmi was not included.

n Right-click on either HDMI or Speakerphones and select "Set as default" to switch between TV and PC speakers

Note: You might need to close and restart any applications like Media player, VLC, Mozilla etc. For instance, say you were listening to iTunes, then hooked your pc to your tv and followed the staps above, there'd be no sound coming from the iTunes cos it's still set on Speakers/Headphones. So you'd need to close it and restart it.

solutions will vary slightly depending on

also found this:

control panel-device manager-system devices-high definition audio controller.

Enable it. In my case i have 2 high definition audio controller. Disabling one of it will disable the pc speaker & digital audio/spdif. Disabling the other will disable the ATI HDMI output with the tv icon. Enabling both will enable all sound playback device. You can actually open the sound playback device window and see the icon comes and goes as you play around enabling and disabling the audio controlle
