I'm trying to install Win 98, using a CD, after installing a new hard drive. The computer goes through all the system checks and then on #1, the computer will beep once and then freeze. I have shut the system down and restarted several times, but it does the same thing.

Hi Guest_tammyp_Guest
Welcome to geekstogo
when you started the install did it fdisk and format the new harddrive? with shutting it down before the install was done you may need to boot with a 98 boot disk then fdisk and format then try a install again. you can get a bootdisk here.Bootdisk.com

I formatted the hard drive with the software provided with the hard drive. the computer booted from that and gave the option to install operating system. I then used the WIN 98 CD.

How large is the new hard drive? Your computer's BIOS and/or Windows 98 may have problems recognizing drives larger than 37 or 64 GB.
