Hello,

 

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop A45-S150. I dug this laptop out of a closet after 2 or 3 years of not using it. The battery is missing however does power on and shows very briefly the Toshiba screen then goes straight to a black screen with Password=  in the upper left corner. I have read that if I open up the computer and disconnect the Bios battery for few minutes this would reset the password. I did this twice and the second try I left it disconnected for 5 hours. Still no luck. I have also left the laptop plugged in over night and still no luck. I understand there might be two pins I could use a paperclip on the reset the password but I can not locate these on this machine. I have done what I could to search on the internet but seem to only find how to do it but not the location on this computer of the pins. 

 

I am looking for any advise anyone could give me. I am trying to set this computer up for my kids but seem to be locked out.

The advice of ruggie_uk is spot on but can I just add that if a password was never required in the first place and you have not done so already, try leaving the password field blank and pressing Enter, if this does not work contact a reputable tech local to you and ask if they can help, you will need proof of ownership such as the sales receipt or warranty for the notebook, picture ID such as a passport/driving licence and a utility bill that has your present address on it.

 

Please note that depending on the type of password involved it is sometimes not possible to reset the password meaning that the MB needs to be replaced.
