Yes, JDS, you are correct that you were pushing for a scan disk after a chkdsk (and also a DISM). I, in an overabundance of caution, wanted to read up on anything I tried before doing it, as I have caused more problems in the past by just trying things without fully understanding the ramifications.

On one of my old computers, I think that Norton utilities (Norton Disk doctor etc.) may have provided some of the functionality of scan disk and chkdsk, but I have not installed that on my computers in recent years. I had already researched chkdsk due to an I/O error trying to make a system image backup, but had not used scan disk as you demonstrated to me. It is a nice little tool to have in one's toolbox.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'd like to use the system for a few more days and make sure that I have no further problems (especially with my devices). Then I will close this post.

Thank you again for your help. I am really overwhelmed by the kindness of people trying to help others in this forum. I was helped once before a couple of years ago, and I continue to be very grateful for those who give of their time and knowledge to help those of us who "get in over our heads" with problems.

Sunny7,

So true, always research before doing anything if you are not familiar with it. My way is iv'e learned from my mistakes and i am not afraid to try myself ,i feel good if i can fix it myself and in the process i learned something new.

Don't be afriad you will screw it up, just do your homework first and in doubt come here and ask one that knows about it more.

I would use Windows chkdsk not another softwares utility.

Reason i mentioned chkdsk and scan disk is you had an unexpected shutdown which can corrupt files and sectors on a HDD.

Did you make a restore point ? IMPORTANT you do !!

Yes it is fine to keep this post going here till you know it is all resolved for sure, we are here to help you if you require further help.

You are most welcome, when you feel you need no more help this post can be helpful to others who may have the same or similiar issue, the staff will close this post.

And yes this forum is great and people here are very knowledgeable, me myself has learned alot coming here and tries to help others with knowledge i have.

Stay calm, have patience and never panic and don't do this  :smashcomp:

Thank you, JDS. I did a restore point, and a chkdsk /r to repair any bad sectors. Next I am going to do a backup.

I feel that this post can be closed and I'll try not to do what you suggest, although I have wanted to throw it out of the window at times. :P

Yes Sunny7, now that everything is working fine and you made a restore point if anything happens go back to that restore point.

One thing is whatever the settings on size of your restore points once you exceed this size, system will delete some.

In system properties when you click configure you can set amount of space system restore will use, default usually 9GB.

After awhile i delete mine and make new ones as long as whatever changes, install and uninstalls i do work well.

Staff will take care of your post, it usually stays open for others with similiar issues can read this and it will help them.

Most Welcome again,anytime Sunny.

:killcomp: Be patient do not get frustrated ever!
