Have worked my way down the preposting list and explorer.exe restarts every time I open Control Panel or Internet Explorer. The only way to get online is thru MSN.

Hi Solcree and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

Download and install CleanUp! Here
We will use this program later.

Please update your Ewido if you haven't already done so :tazz:

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy
Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

5. Open HiJack and do a scan.

6. Put a Check next to the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.yyep.com/...h/search02.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://desktop.presa...onsumer&LC=0409
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ms101.mysearc...sa/srchlft.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Nsv] C:\WINDOWS\System32\nsvsvc\nsvsvc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ac1d181c3c85] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Ltwvc11n.exe
O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} -

7. click the Fix Checked box

8. Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\nsvsvc

9. Please remove just the files from the following paths using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\Ltwvc11n.exe

10. Open up Ewido and do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

11. Run the program CleanUp!

12. Reboot into normal mode and please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

13. Please post an Active scan log and a fresh HiJackThis log to verify all is good. Ensure you rehide your “hidden files and folders” back to the way they were.

Hi Solcree,

We are almost there ;)

Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

1. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

2. Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

WebSavingsfromEbates
Gain

3. Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\Program Files\WebSavingsfromEbates
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Gain Publishing
C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking
C:\Documents and Settings\default\Application Data\Lycos
C:\Program Files\Search Toolbar

4. Please run Killbox.
  • Select "Delete on Reboot".
  • Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\cd_clint.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.bho
    C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\f3initialsetup*
    C:\WINDOWS\cache371
    C:\Documents and Settings\default\Application Data\tvm*.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\inf\conscorr.inf
    C:\WINDOWS\smdat32m.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\stlb2.xml
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\RTCRES64.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\stlb2.xml
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Ltwvc11n.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\f3initialsetup1.0.0.5.inf
    C:\WINDOWS\inf\conscorr.inf
    C:\WINDOWS\smdat32m.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\woinstall.exe

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
  • Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
Let me know how your computer is running and if you are running into any problems ;)

Thanks,

:tazz:

Hi Solcree,

I don't see anything on your log. Can you explain to me exactly what your problems are and the error messages you get, if you get them.

Thanks,

:tazz:

windows explorer keeps reseting itself every time I open Internet Explorer or the Control panel. these are the only times that it happens. No such problem when running msn browser. the latest error that I recieved is the one in the original post regarding the ntdll.dll. I have even tried to run the fix as suggested by microsoft but that caused it to ask for windows xp professional when all I have is xp home. I appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Hi Solcree,

I have refered you to another staff member who might be able to help you. I do not think that this is related to any malware issues, you should get a PM shortly.

Sorry,
