I was using my computer and it just died and would not turn back on. I am going to try and fix myself and was curious if after being fixed and booted up for the first time, does it go right back to where I left off or is it a clean slate. For example: being on word document, listening to iTunes and having a couple web pages open. Is the paper I was typing gone because it wasn't saved and do I have to start over and find the site again that I was using as well. Thank you

If we can fix it (hopefully we can unless weird grimlins are residing inside the PC), it will be as if you had started the PC. All your unsaved works are lost and have to be redone.

First things first, do you have the following things --
  • An USB drive;
  • A malware free working PC;
  • Your Windows CD; and
  • Internet connection
Please, also state the issues you faced prior having an unbootable PC. Do note that, an unbootable PC is a result of myriad of possibilities such as Hard Drive failure, Corrupted OS and not limited to malware only.

I am sorry for your loss. Do you want to proceed? By turning on I meant it will be like you turned on your PC from a shut down without saving your works. You will still have your programs and other saved applications.
