I only got otl.txt so below is the report...

 

Unfortunately, the Extras.txt was the important part of the scan this time, so, I have to send you back again.

 

Make sure under Extra Registry you tick All and then Press Run Scan (NOT Quick Scan). Doing it this way you will get an Extras.txt. If you do it any other way, you will not get an Extras.txt

Hi Andro,

 

I think we've picked up on something that might clarify your Blue Screen (BSOD) issue. I want to be careful to both say this correctly and in a way that makes sense. When you system goes through the process of booting, part of that process is "telling" or specifying to the Operating System, where find the important programs that it will need to do it's job. In your case, some of the files are located in what I would call the "expected location" of the Windows directory. However, a considerable amount of your files are located in the very unusual directory of Windows.old. (note: It isn't unusual that Windows.old exists, it's unusual to use the files in there for day to day Operating System functions. Typically, .old is a backup location or some other secondary location used to restore files, etc.

 

Can you shed some light on how this happened or why this is set up this way? If so, perhaps I can give you some coaching on how to resolve the issue.

Hey Biscuithd...

 

I was using Windows XP until it's support expired in April then I upgraded to Windows 7. When the new OS was installing I got the notice that all existing files will be saved in Windows.old folder. I clicked OK because this way I didin't have to move all files from old Windows to the new one.

Hi Andro,

 

After quite a bit of research and consulting with others that have experience with this type of upgrade, here's the consensus.

 

Yes, Microsoft not only suggests, but apparently will walk you through this type of upgrade. However, it rarely works without issues. Some quite severe. It is recommended that you Backup your data and do a fresh install of the Operating System. From the standpoint of Malware (the focus of this part of the board), your machine logs indicate that your machine is clean. Last, we do have an Operating System section of our board here. If you'd like to get a second opinion, I think that would be wise on your part. :)

If a fresh install is the best option then I will do that. I created a topic in a Operating System section before I was redirected in this one so I will write there what are you recommending.
