Hello,

I have been trying for two days to install a brand new fresh copy of  Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit over my little handy tablet:

The installation goes fine, but the first boot... never ends! After a while of boot process It always ends up with a black screen and a mouse pointer stuck in the middle and I can't do anything from there, the computer is stuck there and it doesn't respond anymore to keyboard/mouse inputs.

I have also tried to boot in "safe mode" and "safe mode with networking" but results are pretty the same!

Black screen with "safe mode" signature top and bottom, with mouse pointer in the middle.... but everything is just stuck there and I have to turn off computer manually.

The hard drive installed inside this tablet is a micro SSD half-size (32GB), like this:

I have made some research in google for possible solutions, but I am not an expert into these matters and I don't know what to do exactly...

I have found this forum which seems well reliable in problem-solving regarding these matters... so I hope that someone can help me here...

Anyway, in another section i saw another user suggesting to download and execute "FRST scan tool".... so I did it, and here is my actual output scan output ran from the media installation DVD command prompt (restore):

Hello, the tablet has Windows 7 License COA on its back! and came already with Windows 7 installed ! On the original manufacturer website there are all drivers certified for W7.

I only had the bad idea to format the drive and reinstall everything clean :(

But now I am stuck, it is completely unusable and I can't get out of it :( my bad !

Hello! I'm still confused?? What are you using to install W7 after formatting? Do you have a legal copy of W7??

Also I'm not familiar with what you mean by Little handy tablet.

Post your make and model number. Maybe some one can help you. Do you have the 25 digit code??

If you own the license, you can get a ISO file of W7 from digital river.

Maybe other members will reply and help!!

Of course I have the Windows license and a legit copy. Furthermore, as I told you earlier, the TABLET has a windows 7 sticker license on the back.

If you looked better at the log above, you would notice that inside the drive e: (DVD) there was the "GRMCULFRER_EN_DVD" which is the untouched ISO for W7 32bit Ultimate.

The drive has been formatted right when the installation started, as normally.

This is a rugged little laptop/tablet, marked Durabook T7MD, it has an ATOM CPU (1.6ghz, Z530) and 2 GB RAM.... touchscreen, barcode reader, gps...

hmmm I have some little news.

I have tried to pull the SSD inside this tablet and put it in another tablet I have (not a durabook)

and there the boot process goes absolutely fine! without any problems, I didn't even have to reinstall from scratch.... !

But then, If I put back the drive into its durabook it still gets stuck at the same point... ! black screen and mouse pointer in the middle, all frozen.

it's like if the drive goes into sleep, or freeze, or something like that at a certain point... or a hardware conflict.

But the drive does not have any problems since in the other laptop (gigabyte) works well and the boot goes absolutely fine !

very very strange behaviour... I dont have a clue on what to do to install and run the OS over this strange tablet :(

I have also tried to disable in BIOS all integrated devices (wifi, gps, etc.) to avoid any possible hardware conflict/problem... but same exact behaviour even with everything disabled !

I am lost

That info regarding it booting fine in the other tablet is suggesting corruption in the bios.

The bios tells the Durabook (or any computer) what to load and what to boot from.

Is there any place in the bios that does a "reset" to the bios?

Also, is the bios set to boot from the hard drive?

Hello,

this weekend has been a nightmare! Again I spent a very huge amount of time over this laptop in attempting to solve these problems...

I formatted the drive at least 10 times during the various installations you will see, and I even wiped it with Parted magic.

1) the first thing I have done, following "123runner" above suggestion, was to update the BIOS - it was already the last version, but I updated I updated it anyway, successfully -

and so I set the settings back to default values (but I've done this before anyway, without positive results).

The internal drive (SSD Sandisk P4) is of course recognized by BIOS and it is the 1st boot drive, unless I changed it "on fly" when installing OS from DVD external drive.

All this anyway did not solve the problem ... as the laptop is still stuck at W7 boot, at the same point, with the same behaviour described earlier.

2) I attempted another solution, and that was to allow Windows 7 installation over an external USB drive enclosure (using of course the durabook internal SSD drive in it),

it was a bit tricky during the file preparation but at the end i was able to finally start the installation from the USB drive!

But guess what... same problems!! Installation started and went apparently fine, but the first boot was the usual same crash. even in protection mode.

Just to verify that this laptop has indeed problems, I have put the external USB drive on another laptop and the boot there was instead fine!! :(

I have then tried to put the SSD back inside the durabook, but the boot stopped, same behaviour as always!

3) I tried to install Windows XP professional, and it was also a NO GO... reporting various errors during install... during file copy, and at some point installation couldn't proceed.

4) I tried to install a copy of Windows XP Tablet edition I had available here.... ! It failed... pretty same copy-file errors of XP Pro during install, ending with a general failure and installation could not proceed.

5) As last hope, I tried to install an ancient copy of Windows 2000 I have here.......... BLUE SCREEN during install. Failed.

I am sad because I don't know WHY I can't install any version of windows, on a laptop certified for Windows 7 with its license on back! :(

But I give up, this case is most probably a motherboard failure.
