No working camera. Sorry.

This is what I get.

Disk###         Status        Size              Free          Dyn    Gpt
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disk 0             Online        931 GB        931 GB
Disk 1             Online         14  GB              0  B

Hope that makes sense.

Thank you.

From what I see, the disk is already "clean", so you can just select it and go ahead with "Create Partition Primary" right away.

Use the Disk 0 (the 931GBs) one for your primary partition.

This single line is more complicated than it looks. Typing 'Help Create Partition Primary' brings up the syntax options for this line - but it's too complicated for me.

The previous error message told me I needed to choose a disk - some of the options shown do not indicate a disk. It also brings in the Gpt which was shown on the list disks screen.

Can you please tell me the exact syntax for this line.

Thanks

This is the sort of syntax that confuses me:

create partition primary [size=<n>] [offset=<n>] [id={ <byte> | <guid> }] [align=<n>] [noerr]

Also, I think the format F5 line is going to be difficult.[for me]---------------- Maybe all of them will be!!

What happened to the old

format /s

install ?!!!

Thanks

The SSD appears not to have been taken into account for a optimal fresh install.

Insert the Installation CD and boot from it. After the language screen, Select Install Now. Follow Aura's instructions here, Starting at Windows 7 Installation.  Format the drive at the point where you will select the Disk 0 Size 931GB. Then let Windows do the rest, as per Aura's tutorial.

I will follow RSntgRvr's latest instructions in a few minutes. Time zone differences explain delay. I'm in London UK.

I will pick up on Iammykyl's SSD point - later (if possible).

Thanks again.

I know everyone must be well fed-up with my problem, but it seems to go on.

Followed Aura’s instructions. Chose disk 0 partition 2 to install Windows and hit “Format”. However, I was not offered any network connection choice during installation and now cannot connect to internet. Screen tells me “Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter you will need to install the driver”.

On the same machine I can still connect to internet using Linux Mint Live CD, so I’ve been through troubleshooter and it seems I need a driver for the adapter but cannot connect to internet to search for one. I downloaded ProWin 64.exe to a flash drive on the pc I’m using to communicate with you. I then transferred the driver to the non-working machine desktop and installed. There was a problem with SNMP but, as I did not understand it, I skipped that. I tried again, got the same message about network adapter and driver and then was told ‘no drivers on this machine’

One minor point. When the installation reaches “Completing Installation” stage it then says it will reboot in X seconds. When it reboots, because I had not taken out the installation disk, it simply started the whole procedure again booting from the DVD and going through country, language settings etc. So, maybe an amendment to the Aura’s tutorial?

Finally, I did not have the SSD connected. Initially, I thought the problem was caused by the SSD but the conclusion seems to be that it was malware. The OS is not installed on SSD, according to manufacturer of pc. It’s Intel’s SMART response technology configuration.

I suppose it’s not a bad idea to accommodate the SSD, but I will wait for your guidance.

I’m really sorry about all this and now quite embarrassed. Thank you for your patience.

Thanks.

Access to internet solved. Few more drivers to find etc.

That just leaves the SSD. Any views, please.

Thank you.

Sorry to not have replied before, but I'm glad that you finally managed to install Windows :)
And yes, all the drivers you need can be obtained easily from your laptop/computer manufacturer website in their Drivers section or on the webpage of your computer/laptop model.
I'm not aware of what issue you had with your SSD, so I'll look into it first to see what was the issue before answering you on that one.

I've decided to give up on the SSD - you will be glad to hear !! My machine much faster now all the cr@p has been removed and probably faster now than it was when SSD working. Never noticed much value in SSD for the sort of use I make of pc.

The point of this post is that I want to thank JntgRvr most sincerely for your help. You have shown immense patience under the most trying of circumstances. Your instructions, especially, were very clear. They were first class for someone like me with limited knowledge. You have been a star. Thank you.

And to Aura. Your tutorial was great. So easy to follow - and it worked. Thanks to you as well.

I will try to stay off this site in future. I hope - for your sakes - I manage to do that !!

Thank you.

While in disk part, do a list vol. It will show you what partition has what drive letter.  For instance, on mine this is what shows (I have 3 drives):

DISKPART> list vol

Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info
  ---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- --------
  Volume 0 K DVD-ROM 0 B No Media
Volume 1 C Lenovo_C NTFS Partition 206 GB Healthy Boot
Volume 2 WINRE_DRV NTFS Partition 1000 MB Healthy Hidden
  Volume 3 SYSTEM_DRV FAT32 Partition 260 MB Healthy System
Volume 4 NTFS Partition 450 MB Healthy Hidden
Volume 5 PBR_DRV NTFS Partition 24 GB Healthy Hidden
  Volume 6 D Lenovo_D NTFS Partition 732 GB Healthy
  Volume 7 E Lenovo_E NTFS Partition 732 GB Healthy
  Volume 8 F Lenovo_F NTFS Partition 398 GB Healthy
  Volume 9 G Lenovo_G NTFS Partition 698 GB Healthy
Volume 10 H Lenovo_H NTFS Partition 698 GB Healthy Pagefile
  Volume 11 I Removable 0 B No Media
