With the notebook turned off and disconnected from the AC adapter have you checked to see if the battery will slide out fully while the tabs are in the locked position.
If the battery is not sliding out fully and the locking tabs are not broken, to stop the battery moving place Sellotape around the underside edge of the battery to hold it in place, not ideal but better than the cost of a tech repair and/or a possible replacement battery.
