I seem to have developed a loose connection in the in-line Sound Supressor on my computer charger. Have to wiggle the wires to get the light to come on!

 

I'm in a 3rd-world country and it will be hard to replace the charger. How important is that Sound Supressor? Can i cut it out of the line and re-splice the wires?

"sound suppressor"? do you mean the black nub in the middle? that's a ferrite torroid, and it's a "noise" suppressor...not really a sound suppressor. it suppresses electrical "noise"....

anywho....being in a 3rd world country it's likely MORE important as that shields the internals of the computer from EFI and such introduced through the power supply. you might be able to scavange a removable one from a different device and pass a loop of the power cord through that and get away with it. if it's not going to be too long before you can get a new cable, then you could probably go a little while without one. if you were in the developed world it might not be as big of an issue going without

Thank's for this information. It's true that the electriciy is suspect here! I go to the village to pick up my wifi singal at one of two bars. At one place, my computer crashes about once an hour. Not so at the other bar. I suspect it has something to do with the power source. Because the supply is so unreliable, most places have large 12v battery banks and an inverter that automatically kicks in when the town mains go down. When this happens, a lot of the chargers for computers, phones, etc. won't work!

I guess I'll just have to keep wiggling my wire until a better solution presents itself.
