Welcome to GTG.

Please update to XP Service Pack 1a as soon as possible. You're system is very vulnerable to attacks now. Hold off on SP2 until you are clear to go.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

Download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and install it. Update to the newest definitions. If you have trouble updating, you may do it manually at http://www.ewido.net...wnload/updates/ Do NOT the Ewido scan yet.

Please download Nailfix at http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824 Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Right click on this link http://www.greyknigh...lO15Domains.inf and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Next run a full scan in Ewido. Save the log from the Ewido scan so that you can post it later.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Restart your computer.

Download FindIt's.zip http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443 to your desktop.

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder. Double click on FindIt's.bat and wait for Notepad to open a text file. It will take a while so please be patient... Note: If you are having problems using FindIt's.bat (16 bit error), copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now try running FindIt's.bat.
3. Then post the results here along with the new HijackThis log. Also post the Ewido scan results here.

I want you to go to c:\windows\system32\ folder and tell me if you can find a file called wirl.dll in there.

Man this is a bad one. OK, we'll remove that also:

Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

Run a new HijackThis scan and check the following entries:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Compaq32 Service Drivers] msconfig32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MRT] "C:\WINDOWS\System32\MRT.exe" /R
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Compaq32 Service Drivers] msconfig32.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Compaq32 Service Drivers] msconfig32.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [Compaq32 Service Drivers] msconfig32.exe
O23 - Service: Hardware Clock Driver (hwclock) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hwclock.exe

Make sure you close all open windows except for HijackThis and then hit the Fix Checked button.

Search and delete this file manually -> msconfig32.exe - it should be in the system folder

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with red circle with a white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say no:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\cidft.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\cidpoq32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\gupd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hst32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\icnfe.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\icqrt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\icvbr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\sdfup.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\syst1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\syst2.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\syst3.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\thun.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wcnl32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wecxg32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wirl.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\xcwer32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\zxmsn.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hwclock.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System\SVCHOST.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System\SVCHOS~1.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System\SVCHOST.EXE

Restart and do the following scan now:

Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. You may use Panda ActiveScan also at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Do you have high speed internet? If you do, go here and download SP1a immediately. Install it now.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers.

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for Hardware Clock Driver (hwclock) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Compaq32 Service Drivers] msconfig32.exe
O23 - Service: Hardware Clock Driver (hwclock) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hwclock.exe (file missing)

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

msconfig32.exe

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Get XP Service Pack 2 as soon as you can now. You are open to many security attacks.

For the Messenger Service problem, go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then scroll down to Messenger Service and double click on it. Stop the service and under Startup type, choose either Manual or Disabled.

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

You don't seem to have any Service Packs installed. Install Service Pack 1a and maybe go to SP2 even. See if Internet Explorer still has any problems. If so, post back with a new HijackThis log.

It doesn't look like you installed SP1 though. OK, try to repair Internet Explorer. Go to c:\windows\inf\ and look for ie.inf. Once found right-click on it and choose Install.

See if that repairs Internet Explorer. Try to get SP2 now and install it.

If you don't have any more problems, I will close out this topic now.
