Hey, everybody,
Bit of a weird one, here. I've got multiple devices that connect to the wireless modem/router combo in my home. There have never been any issues until about a week ago when all of a sudden the modem just kept resetting itself out of nowhere. Trial-and-error revealed that my PC being connected wirelessly was causing the problem. It's an intermittent issue; it sometimes resets every minute or so for a while, sometimes once every few minutes. The current modem is a Cisco DPC3825 provided by my ISP. Power cycling the modem hasn't helped.
I've been connecting my system to wireless networks for years using an old D-Link DWA-125 USB wi-fi adapter. It's an old piece of hardware, and the issue only seemed to start happening after I reinstalled the drivers for it the other day. I attempted again to reinstall it, but that didn't help, so I thought maybe that replacing it might, and I bought a Cisco AE2500 dual-band adapter. It seemed for a while that it had solved the problem, but the problem persisted after a little while.
I chose to post here instead of under Hardware or somewhere else because the modem only does this when my Windows 7 PC is connected. Here are my system specs from Speccy. It's a custom-built PC that's about five years old. Threat scan from Malwarebytes Free comes back clean, as does a full scan from McAfee, which is provided for free by my ISP. I currently have a service call booked for tomorrow for my ISP to come and take a look at things, but I don't know if they'll do anything if the issue is related to my system, so I wanted to ask the competent team here at G2G: Do you have any idea what may be causing this and what can be done to resolve it?
