Hey, everybody,

Bit of a weird one, here. I've got multiple devices that connect to the wireless modem/router combo in my home. There have never been any issues until about a week ago when all of a sudden the modem just kept resetting itself out of nowhere. Trial-and-error revealed that my PC being connected wirelessly was causing the problem. It's an intermittent issue; it sometimes resets every minute or so for a while, sometimes once every few minutes. The current modem is a Cisco DPC3825 provided by my ISP. Power cycling the modem hasn't helped.

I've been connecting my system to wireless networks for years using an old D-Link DWA-125 USB wi-fi adapter. It's an old piece of hardware, and the issue only seemed to start happening after I reinstalled the drivers for it the other day. I attempted again to reinstall it, but that didn't help, so I thought maybe that replacing it might, and I bought a Cisco AE2500 dual-band adapter. It seemed for a while that it had solved the problem, but the problem persisted after a little while.

I chose to post here instead of under Hardware or somewhere else because the modem only does this when my Windows 7 PC is connected. Here are my system specs from Speccy. It's a custom-built PC that's about five years old. Threat scan from Malwarebytes Free comes back clean, as does a full scan from McAfee, which is provided for free by my ISP. I currently have a service call booked for tomorrow for my ISP to come and take a look at things, but I don't know if they'll do anything if the issue is related to my system, so I wanted to ask the competent team here at G2G: Do you have any idea what may be causing this and what can be done to resolve it?

I can't think of anything your computer can do that would cause the modem to recycle. Sounds to me like the modem need to be replaced by your ISP.

It sounds to me also to be a modem issue from your ISP. That don't last for ever.

Have them replace it.

ISP replaced the modem yesterday, didn't solve the problem. Does anybody have any other ideas on this?

BTW, with the exception of the Wi-Fi name and password, there are no custom settings or anything like that in effect. Everything else is factory. Firmware on the modem is up to date. I am absolutely at a loss on this.

Does the modem still reset itself?

Yes, it does. It's intermittent, but that's no different than it was before. I'm connected to my neighbour's wi-fi in the meantime (with their permission) and we're not having the same problem.

To me, that points to their modem still being the problem, even though they changed it. I can't think of anything else to do, sorry.
