Thanks again jds63 for your patience.

Sorry if I have not addressed the questions you asked.

As you can see from the snapshot there is no audio & inputs & outputs, only an entry in sound video & game controllers.

14899701685_8af3c673f6_o.jpg

As far as clicking on things, there are two items I click on.

On the start menu in accessories I click on sound recoder & a meesage comes up saying no audio recording device vcan be found.

The other item I have clicked on is sound from control panel & I posted a snapshot of that two days ago showing playback, recording, sound & commuinication.

There is nothing else on the computer I can click on to access the onboard sound card.

I'm sure you must be as frustrated as me & for that I apologise.

Serida,

It's o.k., just many times i was asking for you to check certain places and you were not answering those important question, made it harder to try to help you, which i do want to do.

To me looks like there is no integrated sound card (device) drivers  in system.

As you can see there is no Audio Inputs and Outputs listed at top of the Device Manager.

It is recognizing the Sound Device, by listing High Definition Audio Device, no driver software it looks like.

Since i am not positive this is using Realtek, looking to there site might  not be a good idea or option, i would suggest a way of finding the manufacturer's web site to download Sound drivers to reinstall.

Or Do you have any disc's came with this system any kind of recovery program or recovery partition you know of on system, this would be a hidden partition on the drive ?

To me also no software means most likely no drivers in place, now i do not know yet how this happened considering it is a new PC. In device manager right click the High Definition Audio Device, go to properties and then go to drivers page, tell me what is listed.

Here is a pic of mine with a Creative Sound Blaster Z

If you got the pc you linked to check the motherboard. You can also find the MB series printed on the MB, and go to manufacturer site.

Re the link, if ASUS F2A55M_LK2 then http://www.asus.com/...5M_LK2/gallery/ click on support and select driver/tools, select audio, select op system, download driver and install it.

Thanks for this help, old-fart.

Slipped my mind to check there, but still trying to find out the issue with this Members PC, needed certain info i was not receiving..

Also isn't this the correct one, not this

F2A55-M LK2

Even though it is the same drivers for sound device, knew it had to be Realtek.

Thank you both to jds63 & old fart for your replies.

I think at last I am eventually getting somewhere though some problems remain.

I went to the manufacturers website to look for downloads for this machine. I was unsure of the model number so I chose for the site to detect my model to ensure I would be downloading the correct drivers. I downloaded the sound drivers for my machine & then installed.

I then clicked on sound recorder from the start menu & whereas before, I recieved a message saying no audio recording device found I now got this.

14887545766_158deb6c6e_o.jpg

So this now looks correct.

I then clicked on sound from the control panel & in there stereo mix now shows. (the equivalent of what U hear)

14723924718_3ffbecd824_o.jpg

In the notification area was a new icon & when I clicked on it, this came up.

14723880389_4a540f3bf3_o.jpg

This just goes to prove that none of this software was previously installed.

Playback as previously is no problem but it is recording that I still have an issue with.

Using sound recorder I have recorded about thirty seconds of an MP3 clip, it appears to be recording as I see the time incrementing. It is saved as an WMA file. The size of the recorded clip is in proprtion to the recording time.

Upon playing it back there is no sound so that is the problem I am currently experiencing.

There are still no audio input/output enries in device manager.

Serida,

I did have a good feeling your drivers were not there on the system, but like you if you bought it new, thinking how this can be.

How did they dissapear. No Audio/Video Inputs and Ouputs, this i need to think on, could be a setting or it is that you do not have some inputs/outputs, like mine did.

Again i was not too experienced with recording in Windows, but may have to switch something back to hear it ( default device) .Possibly in the software,Realtek. What media Player using Windows ? Any errors ?

Either site we listed both had the same driver package.

Thanks jds63 & old fart for your replies.

With the drivers installed as per my previous post every time I plugged the speaker plug into the front of the machine the Realtek audio manager would pop up asking me what I had plugged in & there were three options to select from. I selected headphones as there was not an option for speakers.

As I previously mentioned when  I recorded a short clip of music file on my PC, it played okay but it did not appear to be recording. When I clicked on Stereo mix the graph bars did not show any level.

Yesterday I got to the back of the machine, plugged the speaker lead in & started recording again.

This time round sound recorder showed the recording level as did Stereo mix. Playing it back was fine. This has to do with plugging the speakers into the rear of the machine.

I prefer the interface of Creative, so I need to get used to Realtek rather than splash out for a new card.

I thank you both with your patience with me.

Now let me gat back to the USB Seagate external drive problem.

I currently have the USB plug plugged into the front of the machine but will want it plugged into the rear to keep the front unclutterd.

Plugged into the front I have the irritation that every time I boot up the PC or wake it up out of sleep mode I get the autoplay box come up.

I removed the USB plug & put it into one of the sockets at the rear of the machine. On restarting the machine I get the message no driver could be found for the device & the drive does not appear in computer.

Putting the plug back into the front it is recognised. (All USB 2)

Just over a year ago I bought my sister a Win 8 laptop, she has the same external drive, when she plugged it in she got the same error messagae as myself, no driver found.

After placing the plug into another available socket the drive was recognised.

I get the impression newer computers are a bit fussy what goes into each USB socket, I cannot think of any other reason.

At the rear of the machine I am using two USB sockets, one for the keyboard, the other for the mouse & they are functioning okay.

Any ideas please how I can resolve this?

With thanks.

Your quite Welcome, Serida,

Glad things are going good. From looking at the specs at Amazon looks like those front jacks are for Headphones and probably a mic, do not think you can plug in speakers there, never saw this before.

Should be labeled even with some kind of picture (icon) engraved there in front, i see next to 2 USB ports, like most machines.

Just need to play around with it more, familiarize yourself with it, read about it in help, do research online about it more, just need to get to know it, like anything else you learn.

Sooner or later you will be a Pro at it. Yes, you do have room for expansion, if you really like Creative my sound card is pretty nice, price went down, It's Creative Sound Blaster Z, PCI card.

As said before seperate ones are usually better.

I need the Model Number of this Seagate External Drive, Windows 7 or 8 should not need a driver, it will use it's own drivers to detect this drive. You need to make the choice when this AutoPlay pops up or in control panel set what you want to happen for AutoPlay, otherwaise this will keep happening. Either choose to open explorer and view files, take no action, choose what to do for each type of media and ask every time. It's obvious it is set to " ask every time". Make your chioce. Why it does not work on back i need to take a look at your machine in ad first to see some stuff.

O.k. need to check a couple of places, take a look at this article will explain steps to check  http://www.makeuseof...-it-in-windows/

As said in this article could be a bad USB port hardware issue, unknown drivers for Windows to recognize or having trouble recognizing.

Since I last posted, I have left my external drive plugged into the front of the machine, when I resume from sleep mode I get the autoplay box come up but for the time being I can cope with that until I have all my other issues resolved.

I decided a couple of weeks ago to install Cyberlink DVD suite, (burning software) I bought this about four years ago so it is not the latest version.

Installed on both XP machines & Win 7 all in one machine & all fine.

During the installation on this new machine a message popped up saying a certificate was not digitally signed & would not be installed. Other parts of the software were sucessfully installed.

On restart the DVD drive had disappeared from my computer.

I uninstalled Cyberlink, restarted but still no drive in my computer.

I then did a system restore & the drive re-appeared.

I searched for this problem about digitally signed certificates & discovered since Win 7 every certificate must be digitally signed.

The odd thing is that my all in one machine running Win 7 that I have had for three years & installed Cyberlink on is fine with no problem with digitally signed certificates.

The solution I discovered was to access the advanced boot options menu by pressing F8 on start up & to disable driver signature enforcement.

I disabled that option, installed Cyberlink & yet again a warning about a unsigned certificate popped up. As before the DVD drive had disappeared from my computer. I uninstalled Cyberlink, did a system restore & the drive is now back.

I love messing around with computers but for the past three weeks I have spent so much time on this machine & got nowhere.

I am begining to wish I had never bought it.

Again, any advice I would be grateful for, I am sorry to be a nuisance having to keep asking so many questions.

Eventually I have got Cyberlink to work..................... only because I bought a later version. Bit cheesed off that I have to keep forking out on a new PC & cannot use the software from my previous machine.

My reason for the delay in posting is that I have been spending time trying to get this blessed external drive to function properly.

On my XP machine the external drive was plugged into the rear of the machine & worked flawlessly.

On this new machine plugged into any of the spare slots at the rear of the machine, up comes the message, no driver found. there is no software to install.

I am quite sure there is no issue with the drive since it worked okay in XP, I think it  is a win 7 issue.

To confirm this my sister used to have an XP laptop with the same external drive as myself plugged into a USB port. Everything was fine.

Last year she bought a win 7 laptop, plugged the external drive in & got the same message as myself, no driver found. I have also googled this & many others have the same problem regardless of the model of the drive.

This is a Seagate Expansion drive, 50GB.

Since I last posted I have had the drive plugged into the front of the machine, at least I don't get a driver problem but really need to have it plugged into the rear to make it more tidy.

Whenever I switch the machine on I get the autoplay option which I simply close, I also get it if the machine goes into sleep mode.

What has happened more recently is that the external drive goes into sleep mode every now & again.

Everything I downlaod I save to the external drive & sometimes have to wait up till ten minutes before I can save it to the drive. The drive never went into sleep mode before.

Again, all these issues I have mentioned other people have had also.

Yesterday I decided to plug the external drive into the rear of the machine again, up came the message no driver found, I went into device manager, uninstaleed the driver, restarted & this time I had sucess.

Twenty fours later the problem returned so it is now plugged back into the front of the machine.

Can anybody help me please, I am almost at the end of my tether & wish I had never bought the machine.

I am sorry I am full of moans, I enjoy resolving problems but I don't seem to be getting anywhere with this.

Thank you.

Welcome back Serida,

When in Device Manager with External Drive plugged in the back USB port, go to Menu bar at top and select View,  and select "Show Hidden Devices"  is there any yellow exclamation points, in Universal Serial Bus controllers, Disk Drives and anywhere else ? After you can unselect in Menu bar under View "Show hidden Devices" .

Most of these External drives go to sleep to save power and the life of the mechanical drive, i have one, it does the same, but to take ten minutes to spin back up is too long. Some settings in Windows still may not stop this, but you can try.

In Power options in the control panel you need to go to your Power Plan and select " Change Plan Settings "  then select " Change advanced power settings ", look in Advanced settings for USB Settings, click + USB Selective Suspend and select enable to disable. Also there is one for Hard Disk, click +  says , Turn off hard drive after, change the minutes to Never. Another area is in the Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus Controller, left click to drop down, USB Root Hubs, right click select properties on Power management tab, uncheck " Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power " problem here is knowing which one it's on, may have to do it to all. Majority of time this does not work, both steps i showed, because there is something in the firmware of these External drive that does this, turns them off when nothing is being accessed for ten minutes or more.

Now back to the no driver found issue with the external also look here     http://knowledge.sea...US/FAQ/201235en

sorry haven't read the whole topic, but just wanted to say if your new pc only has pci-e slots it is still possible to add your old pci cards, like the tv tuner, to it by using a pcie to pci adaptor/riser, these come in all different types, single/dual slots, fixed/flexible connection, high/low profile, etc.etc.

here is an example of a couple.

http://amfeltec.com/...to-pci-adapter/

http://www.amazon.co...d/dp/B0024CV3SA

good luck with sorting out all your problems and issues and hope you soon have everything working to your satisfaction.
