As a starting point please do try removing the battery and then using the AC adapter to power the notebook, let us know in your own thread what happens.

 

If I move the cord around on the power supply I will get a light flash of light from the power cord, but it won't stay on.

I have exactly the same problem with my Dell Inspiron 15-3521. No power LED, nothing. Here is what I tried: I bought a brand new battery and a new charger and tried using them but it didn't work. I also bought a new power jack harness cable and replaced it with the one attached to the motherboard, but still, no power LED, nothing... I am giving up, it is probably bad motherboard. But before I completely give up, I wanted to reply to this topic to see if there may be any other solutions to this problem. suave6565, did this "new battery" solution work for you?

I know that its been a while but I left the laptops sitting in my closet for the longest...here I am back at it again...im pretty sure most has moved on or did the same. I hate throwing away good stuff away.. I still have hopes in fixing it possibly finding a solution. Like I mentioned in my previous post, Its too coincidental that I have two Dell Inspiron 15-3521 that just gone dead.. I just cant get past that.. One was working fine then one day it stopped powering up...if I remember correctly, I think it started with the laptop not charging. It would power up but it would not charge. I thought it  was the battery so i figured its an easy fix...then one week later, I get a call that the other laptop didn't turn on. I bought both a battery and charge...both did not work both dead... I pulled it out today to see what I can do or finally give up and toss them out. Ill continue to search and post any new update regardless the outcome.

Hi everyone!

I have the Dell 15 3521 as well and it's dead. It won't power on. This happened out of the blue in July.  I've tried the suggestions here about holding the power button and all that but one thing I did notice, the power cord light goes out when I plug it into the laptop. I've only plugged it in while the battery is in. If I move the cord around on the power supply I will get a light flash of light from the power cord, but it won't stay on. It will stay on if I don't have the laptop plugged into it though.

So do you think my battery is the culprit, my power cord, both? Should I try taking the battery out and plugging it in? Could it be the power port on the laptap and if so, is there anyway I can fix that?

I have a Dell laptop I can remove the battery and still boot up the PC, with that said I could also remove the AC adapter, and the laptop will boot. In my opinion, there is something that is being covered up and will show it's true colors later. In My Opinion

Are you saying that your notebook will boot up with no main power brick in place and no AC adaptor connected to the mains power?

Dell inspiron 15-3521 not turning on issue: So i have a dell inspiron 15 3521, about a year ago, it started turning on, but wouldn't charge. Then, the battery completely died and it wouldn't turn on. Also, when i plugged the charger in, the light on the charger unit turned on then off. I then proceeded to buy a new battery and charging unit. It turned on perfectly and worked well, but the battery wouldnt charge, and when the battery's charge was all out, it would start up, show the windows loading screen for 30-60 seconds and then mysteriously power off. (Same result with battery+charger in) When i tried turning it on with just the charger in, the front indicator lights would turn on for a few seconds, then turn back off. I tried getting rid of the static built up by pressing the power button down for 30 seconds, but no progress. I know that the outlet is working perfectly, the battery works well, just doesnt have a charge, and has been cleaned. I think the problem is either with the laptop not accepting power (for lack of better words) or the charger not producing enough power. All help is appreciated, and needed... Thank you!

Hi , I know has being a while but I have the same problem now and I had to resolve it replacing the coin cell battery, did you try that? is very weird but it worked for me. I am testing it and for now it is working well. You should try without the coin cell battery (2032) and then with a new one.

I know this is an old post, however I have just had the same issue; Dell Inspiron 5520, no lights on the front even when the power supply fitted and battery plugged in.  I took the whole laptop apart to replace the BIOS battery, an idea from another website and when I put the laptop back together (with screws leftover obviously) the laptop was working again........brilliant.....For one day and then it failed once more.   

 

However good news!!  I just been playing around again and I have found that by removing the keyboard the laptop boots up immediately, on battery or mains power.  I've refitted the keyboard and it no longer boots, so I've removed it for the time being and plugged in a spare USB one.

I have an Inspiron 15 (7547) that does get a power indicator but when the power button is pressed, it makes a whir sound and then shuts down within about 3 seconds.
I removed the RAM and it beeps like crazy.  I replaced RAM 1 stick at a time to no avail.  I replaced the HDD, and even took out the HDD.  No change.  I removed the battery, pressed the power, removed the coin cell, pressed power again, replaced all and still the behavior is the same (power button lights up, power indicator lights up, whir/swish sound & seconds later power down).  Using a power adapter does not change the behavior either.

Hello Mr.Gadget. You wrote this some time ago but this is EXACTLY the issue I’m having. The only dif is mine is the 7548. It started out of nowhere this past Wednesday night. Did you happen to figure out what was wrong? I’ve found all sorts of oddities in my testing. It will start if I have one RAM slot filled with a 4 gig card. That same slot with an 8 gig card will not start. When it does start (only with that 4 gig card) I seem to have to have the cover off and,I swear this is true, it seems to need to be upside down. ?? Weird right?? I discovered this because I was testing every possible card scenario and got tired of putting the cover back on and had the battery unscrewed- a total fluke. Anyway, since I managed to get it running with the small RAM card, while holding it like a pizza, I’ve run the dell diagnostics about 10 times, updated BIOS etc.. I saw an error earlier In the tool about the battery life span running out ( though is windows diagnostics it says the battery is doing fine) but tonight, for the 1st time, I got beeps and an error telling me the video fan didn’t respond properly. I’m wondering if, when the startup precheck runs and the video fan says it’s not working, if the machine simply won’t boot as a safety measure. And I imagine the machine definitely needs work No fans if it’s running more RAM and perhaps that’s why the larger cards won’t work at all. So I’m very hopeful the entire issue is a dying fan causing a massive hiccup.

I have a lot of theories. Any chance you can lead me in the right direction? (Anyone else run into this?) i’d love to avoid having to buy a new laptop. Grrr..
