I have a refurbed Dell Latitude with a web camera which I would like to be able to use. I just don't know how. What software do I have to buy or download to make this thing come alive I have no idea of how they are supposed to work.
Using a web camera, need a tutorial or software suggestion

Hi Janis,
You did not find any software on this Dell Laptop for the Webcam ?
We could use the Model number of this Dell to better help you.
Check the Device Manager in the control panel, should be under Imaging Devices.
Also go to the file menu in Device Manager under view click "show hidden devices".
Any yellow exclamation points in the Device Manager.
Try Dell's Support may need the drivers http://www.dell.com/...us/en/04?~ck=mn

The laptop is a refurbed E4310. The device on device manager, not called a webcam though and it says it is working. But if it is working what software/program do I need? Do I need a youtube account, some other media account, etc.?

Hi Janis,
What exactly is showing and what is it being called in the Device Manager ?
If a webcam is listed in Device Manager, right click it and verify that it is not “Disabled.”
Also try uninstalling it from Device Manager, right click device the select uninstall, reboot Laptop, let it redect the Webcam.
Also Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
What operating system is on this Laptop ?
True you need software to use the Webcam on the Laptop, i assume you have not found any on the system in Programs or Control Panel.
No,not a youtube account, i beleive it is more for streaming videos to youtube from the Cam.
How much did you try Dell's site on this matter, if incorrect drivers are not in there this is the place for them ? I see from research some others had same issue, but was not sure some of the diagnostics they tried from Dell will work for you or not, do not know operating system yet too.
Any disc's you received with this refurb Laptop, bought in a store, online or from a person selling it? Wondering if there was also a recovery partition too.
One option can be tried, Manually re-detecting the hardware.
Disconnect all external devices.
Shut down the notebook.
Remove the battery and AC power.
Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds.
Reinstall the battery and AC power. Then turn the notebook on.
Once Windows is loaded go back to Device Manager.
Selection “Action” and then “Scan for hardware changes.”
If Device Manager detects the hardware allow it to install.

Thanks everyone, and my apologies for a double post. I finally did receive the software download from the company from whom I purchased the laptop. All is well now.

Your very welcome Janis, glad it all worked out.
Was said, best place to look for it is where you got it from, if it was Dell.
Thanks for responding back to post
