hello, first thank you for running such a useful site. it is very much appreciated especially as i hav spent hours trying to sort out my computer and to no avail.

as you can see my main problem seems to be this stealthSWs114.h!dll"ver.4.442as18a it seems to be causing major internet problems as it is rare that i can get onto a webpage other than about.blank or quicknavigate.com. the computer is frequently crashing and is extrememly slow.

i hav run various programs including AVG, Ewido and ad-aware, but still the problems persist. i would be grateful for any help possible, i know you must be very busy, but i am getting very stressed with computers!

i saw that someone had a similar problem to mine in the forum, but thought i best check before doing what she was instructed.

id also like to apologise if this has been posted mroe than once, my computer keeps crashing and therefore i am unsure whether my post has ever gone through or not!

many thanks :tazz:

Hi littlemisssunshine

There's quite a lot to do there. I'm working on your fix and will probably post the steps you need to take tomorrow.

Could you start by moving HijackThis into it's own folder. c:\HJT is usually a good place. Running it from a temporary folder is not a good idea as it saves backups and we are going to clean out the temporary folders as part of the fix.

Hi littlemisssunshine

I hope you have moved HijackThis to its own folder. We are going to clean out all the files in the temporary folders as part of this procedure. You have more than one infection to remove.

You need to know how to boot into Safe Mode. Read this to make sure you feel confident: http://www.bleepingc...tutorial61.html

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions in the order they are given!

Please RIGHT-CLICK: HERE and go to Save As (in Internet Explorer it's "Save Target As") in order to download Grinler's reg file. Save it to your desktop.

Locate "smitfraud.reg" on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the "merged successfully" prompt then follow the rest of the instructions below.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following programs, if found:

Security IGuard
Virtual Maid
Search Maid
PSGuard
AdwareDelete

Exit Add/Remove Programs.

*IMPORTANT*CLICK THIS LINK TO LEARN HOW TO VIEW HIDDEN FILES

* Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit. *In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.

* Save it to your desktop.

* Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C

C:\Windows\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\wp.exe
C:\wp.bmp
C:\bsw.exe
C:\Windows\sites.ini
C:\Windows\popuper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\hhk.dll
C:\Windows\System32\wldr.dll
C:\Windows\System32\wp.bmp
C:\Windows\System32\perfcii.ini
C:\Windows\System32\oleadm.dll
C:\Windows\System32\helper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\shnlog.exe
C:\Windows\System32\intmon.exe
C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe
C:\Windows\System32\msole32.exe
C:\Windows\System32\ole32vbs.exe

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

While your computer is restarting, tap the F8 key continually until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Make sure you can view hidden files as described in the link I gave above.

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following, if found - they may not all be present, (please do NOT try to find them by "search" because they will not show up that way)

FOLDERS to delete (in bold) if found:

C:\Program Files\Search Maid - Delete folder
C:\Program Files\Virtual Maid - Delete folder
C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles - Delete folder
C:\Program Files\Security IGuard - Delete folder
C:\Program Files\PSGuard - Delete folder
C:\Program Files\AdwareDelete - Delete folder

While still in Safe Mode, do the following:

Open HijackThis and click on "Do System Scan Only". When the scan is complete check all the following items. Then disconnect from the internet and close all open windows including this browser window and all instant messaging - Yahoo messenger, MSN messenger, ICQ and anything else that is not essential and click on Fix checked.

Hi Littlemisssunshine

You need to post the whole HijackThis log. You've only posted part of it. If you can post the rest soon I can have a look at it.

Hi littlemisssunshine

Uninstall Spyware Begone or Freescan from Control Panel Add/Remove Programs if it is listed. Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy which you should now have installed will do a better job.

Please reinstate the Spybot Search and Destroy Immunize function that seems to have got lost. Open Spybot Search and Destroy and update. Click on the Immunize Shield in the left hand pane. Close the program.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.quicknavi...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.quicknavi...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.quicknavi...earch.php?qq=%1
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [OPTION 16] C:\DOCUME~1\user\APPLIC~1\ONEGRE~1\Dog User.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Begone] C:\freescan\freescan.exe -FastScan

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. http://www.bleepingc...tutorial61.html

Open Windows Explorer. Find and delete this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Applications\ONEGRE~1 - Delete folder - you'll need to check the name but it will start with ONEGRE
C:\freescan - Delete folder if it is still there.

Reboot into normal mode. Open Cleanup! and click on the Cleanup button.

Open Adaware, update and do a customized scan using the configuration setup from here http://www.geekstogo...?showtopic=2852 Let it remove whatever it finds as Critical Objects as explained in the link.

Reboot into normal mode. Open Spybot Search and Destroy and do a scan with that using the settings in the same topic as the Adaware settings. Let it remove anything it finds. Reboot.

Do a new HijackThis log and post it.

Hi LittleMissSunshine

I'm sorry I've been away so long but it couldn't be helped I'm afraid.

Your log now looks much better. One of the problems you had was an infection that is installed with Messenger Plus!3. The infections appears to be gone. I would have to recommend that you remove Messenger Plus!3 as the infection was the sponsor that makes it free. It remains a security risk because the same thing will happen if you update the program.

So give some thought to removing it altogether. Lop.com has been updated recently and may not be removed so easily next time.

If you decide to remove the program to remove the security risk. Then Uninstall from Control Panel and post a new HijackThis log so we can check if there are any leftovers.

MessengerPlus!3 is not recommended because of the spyware issue with it.

Hi Littlemisssunshine

I'm glad you removed MessengerPlus! as it is a security issue. That log looks much better now :tazz:

Open HijackThis and Click on do System Scan only. Check this item. Close all open windows and click on Fix Checked.

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [MessengerPlusUninstall] C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /C "C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\MsgPlusUninst.bat"

Reboot your computer into Normal Mode and run Cleanup! again to clean out your temporary files as before.
