I would have to say no! If there is a place somebody can hide a virus on the internet you can bet he did. Maby that's just me being overly careful? Lets see what the pros say before you pass your verdict though. donetao  Aura  phillpower2

Are add-ons safe to install? Unless clearly marked otherwise, add-ons available from this gallery have been checked and approved by Mozilla's team of editors and are safe to install. We recommend that you only install approved add-ons. If you wish to install unapproved add-ons or add-ons from third-party websites, use caution as these add-ons may harm your computer or violate your privacy.   Learn more about our approval process https://addons.mozil...olicies/reviews

No they are not.
Once in a while, a malicious extension/plugin manage to make it's way through the Mozilla Firefox plugins store and can hijack your browser or infect you. But most of the time, they are safe. The trick here is to Google that extension name to get more information about it, but also to read the comments and ratings left by other users on it in the store.

I think that no one can guarantee 100% that all the add-ons are safe. Even if each one is manually moderated there is still a chance for a mistake. I try to use one the ones with high rating and created by developers with high reputation
