Fixed both the suggested items and here is the new log from hijackthis.

I also tried to see the other two files under
\Windows\System32 directory and couldn't find these:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\oek.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zssxbnb.exe

Pl. suggest what to be done next?

If the system seems to be clean, here is what I would request you to suggest:
1) What should be done for me to make sure that I don't allow spyware sitting in my machine? Any freeware tools that I can TRUST and use on continous basis?
2) I have got Norton Antivirus and it identifies any virus malware if not spyware. Doing a pretty decent job. I have also bought McAfee antispyware but doesn't seem to be doing it's job.In fact, I feel that all the spyware is being transmitted through McAfee itself (I started getting all this popups only after I added McAfee). I would like to remove McAfee and it doesn't allow me to remove because some services are running. can you pl. suggest how to remove McAfee from my system?

Good job. :tazz:

Your log is clean now.

Please have a look at my site for some tips on how to remove and prevent spyware.

If you want to uninstall McAfee, I would suggest you reboot into safe mode and use the Add/Remove Software there.

Regards,

Hi
I started seeing "Best Offers" popups.

From that time onwards, I did search lot of other discussion topics here in this site and did lot of cleaning myself carefully following the same.

However, I couldn't get rid of "Nail.exe". Finally I went to safe mode deleted actual Nail.exe and renamed a text file as "Nail.exe". Don't know whether that has fixed or not but there exists a "Nail.exe" in my Windows directory.

Till yesterday, I have lots of popups. This morning, I downloaded latest Ad-aware and applied VX2-cleaner. After full scan of Ad-aware, I removed some junk and not sure whether the system is clean or not. Appreciate if you can look at the log file and suggest if there is anything that I need to clean.

Thanks
Pushpak

Click Start > Run type services.msc > OK
In the list of services find:
Command Service
Rightclick that line and choose Properties.
On the General tab Stop and set the service to disabled.
In HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > Delete an NT service
In the dialog box paste: cmdService

That should get rid of this line:

O23 - Service: Command Service (cmdService) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\U3ViYmFSYW8A\command.exe (file missing)

If present, delete this folder:
C:\WINDOWS\U3ViYmFSYW8A
(You may have to boot into safe mode to pull that off)

I saw "Cassava" popup couple of times this morning. Not sure where it has come from.

I will watch for one more day and send further inputs on this. Onething that I observed while booting is, it gives a blue screen of death with "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" error. After booting in "Safe Mode" and again with normal booting, it gets resolved. Not sure what has caused this but it is coming from last two days.

Try installing SP2 for Windows and IE.

Get back to me if that doesn't solve the problems.

Once I upgrade to XP SP2, should I run any of the cleaning tools to avoid a popup that comes after any website visit? or SP2 will take care of this?

The popup-blocker in IE SP2 is pretty good, but specialized tools may be required.
It depends on your surfing habits if it is worth the trouble.
