I'm in the processes of building a computer and was wondering what storage device I should get to hold my HD footage and other video related files. I do a lot of work with Sony Vegas and Adobe After Effects. It was suggested that I put my OS on a Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HDD SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST1000DM003 (link here). But I'm wondering if I need to get something else for my HD footage and related files. I know I need 2 to 3TB and fast read and write speeds, but I'm not sure what type of storage device I should use. Any suggestions?

If you are building a new computer I would suggest a 120GB or above SSD for the OS which will give you faster boot times and two separate 1TB HDDs for data storage only, one as your working drive and one for backing up to, additional HDDs can be added in the future if required or you can use external HDD enclosures and drives.

I was looking at the SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD), but that would strain my budget a little and I hear it is supposed to drop in price in the coming months.

A SSD will give some overall system performance but max RAM you can afford and optimizing your HDD configuration will benefit far more.

I don't use Vegas, but you may be able to direct where read/writes are performed and use a catch disk.
