I have installed an Epson XP302 Printer/scanner on my old laptop running Windows XP without problems, everything is functioning as it should.

I then attempted to install the same, to my newer laptop running Windows 7. when it reaches the installation of the scanner driver  the process stops and informs me that I must install 'Desktop experience' then re-install the driver. The only reference I have found regarding Desktop experience is related to servers. Anyone know how to overcome this?

The printer works correctly, it's only the scanner giving trouble

Hi Skippermal :welcome:

Did you try to install using updated drivers for Windows 7?

If I got the model right you should be able to find them on the Epson website here.

Tried that, latest drivers and of course the driver on the installation disc. I've had the scanner running on this machine previously. It was virused to [bleep] and back while others were using it.

that's all been cleaned up and now - scanner problem. it seems to be a windows issue rather than Epson, as I've loaded it all onto another PC without problems

I suppose the machine wasn't reinstalled after the virus removal?

What type/name of the virus?

Let's do some checking to the system...

» Minitoolbox log
Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.
Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options:

  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices (Only Problems)
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
  • List Minidump Files
  • List Restore Points

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply.

» Farbar Service Scanner (FSS) log
Let's check some windows critical services...
Download Farbar Service Scanner and save the file to the Desktop.

  • Run FSS
  • Check all the options
  • click Scan

Post the generated log in your reply.
