Hi Pieter,

Hm, still not happening for me.

OK, there was nothing astoundingly interesting in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD (like no vsdata stuff), just some other key which I forget now (SUPDATA?) but I deleted it anyway.
I found vsdatant.sys in the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs along witht some other vs stuff, so I deleted it.

When I connected to internet, I got a message from ZA saying it had blocked my access and instructions on how to uninstall it correctly.
So in Safe Mode I deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\vsdatant (vxd doesn't exist) and the file vsdatant.sys from system32.

It also said I should search and delete 'Internet Logs', but this was not on my PC.

I deleted all files from Windows\System32\ZoneLabs except vsmon.exe which won't delete. Or rename. I rebooted after trying each thing.

I tried internet again, and it worked long enough to update my AVG files, but then crashed Windows with a big blue screen after about one minute.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Rich

And reinstall won't work either?
  • Download the Registry Search Tool.
  • Unzip the contents of RegSrch.zip to a convenient location.
  • Double-click on RegSrch.vbs.
  • If you have an anti-virus installed it might prompt you about a running script. Please ignore this warning and allow the script to run.
  • In the "Enter search string (case insensitive) and click OK..." box paste this string:
    • vsmon.exe
  • Click "OK" to search the registry for that string.
  • Wait for a few minutes while it completes the search.
  • Click "OK" to open the results in WordPad.
  • Copy and paste the entire results into your next post.

Pieter,
Here's the result:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs]
"C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\ZoneLabs\\vsmon.exe"=dword:00000002

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1177238915-573735546-725345543-1005\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSaveMRU\*]
"c"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\ZoneLabs\\vsmon.exe"

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1177238915-573735546-725345543-1005\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSaveMRU\exe]
"i"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\ZoneLabs\\vsmon.exe"

Can I kill these or what? :tazz: ;) ;)

The last two are hardly worth killing, but the first one could be what is keeping the file occupied.

Have a look here:
