This has happened a couple times and I have no idea how to fix it or how I fixed it in the past. I play a game and I usually run the game around 60-70 fps and it runs fine. I had been playing for a month or 2 with no problem then 2 days ago I had turned off my computer right before I went to sleep like I always do. Next day I got on and it was VERY choppy and I could hardly do anything, I checked the fps and it was going from 10-15. Not sure what could have happened so I checked everything and the only thing I see is two updates that happened the same day. It's done this 2 or 3 times in the past and I did a bunch of stuff so I'm not sure how I fixed it. Very annoying

Hello jay721 :)

Let's start by a very basic troubleshooting solution : updating your graphic card drivers and updating your Windows Performance Index.
Do you know what graphic card you have and what exact version of Windows you are running ?

Neither of those updates should have affected your video.
Can you post the following please.

Go to Start then to Run
Type in compmgmt.msc and click Enter
On left side click on Disk Management
On right side you will see you hard drive.
Male sure the window is open all the way on the top right so I can see all the info it has.
Now I need you to take a screenshot and attach it to your next reply. Do the following to take a screenshot while the above is open and showing on your desktop.

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG or PNG and save it to your Desktop
Make sure the window is open all the way so I can see everything on the top right window.

Attach it to your next reply

Download Speedfan (The download link is to the right), and install it. Once it's installed, run the program and post here the information it shows.

The information I want you to post is the stuff that is circled in the example picture I have attached.
To make sure we are getting all the correct information it would help us if you were to attach a screenshot like the one below of your Speedfan results.

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard.
  • It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key

Please download and run Hardware Monitor
Installation (setup version only)
HWMonitor is a hardware monitoring program that reads PC systems main health sensors : voltages, temperatures, fans speed.
The program handles the most common sensor chips, like ITE® IT87 series, most Winbond® ICs, and others. In addition, it can read modern CPUs on-die core thermal sensors, as well has hard drives temperature via S.M.A.R.T, and video card GPU temperature. Please get a screenshot of the sensors window and post it in your next reply.

Please Run the PCPitstop.com OverDrive Full Tests

Here's how:

You must use your Internet Explorer for this procedure. (doesn't work so well in Firefox or others). If your machine is running Vista or Windows 7, you must Select IE to “Run as Administrator”. After completing PCPitstop OverDrive you can close your IE browser and re-open it Normally so that you are no longer running as administrator.

Go to: http://www.pcpitstop...pit/default.asp
Click on "Free Computer Check-up" listed below PC Pitstop OverDrive
In the User Login - Click on "Sign up FREE!"
You'll need to submit a valid email address and create your own password, then click - Create Account(button)

Now enter your email address and password to Log in, Select - Scan this system Now!(button)
You will then be asked to download an ActiveX component and allow it to install.
It is safe and does not compromise your privacy.
Follow the on-screen prompts to install the ActiveX and to allow the Full Tests to be run on your machine.

The Full Tests take about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes on most machines.
When complete, a Results - Summary - Recommended Fixes will be displayed.

Please post the URL internet address, from your Results, back here into this Topic Thread so that we can review the configuration and present performance levels of your machine.

Note: During the graphics 2D and graphics 3D testing, your screen will display some rapidly moving objects.
If you are sensitive to visual flashing, it may cause dizziness. Therefore, look away from the screen during that portion of the testing.

After reviewing the results we will be more informed and may be able to provide better recommendations for you to work towards improving your machine's performance.

While PCPitstop does offer a variety of Paid Products, the PCPitstop OverDrive testing is FREE. Please ignore the references to Paid Products. We prefer to provide manual solution instructions that you can apply directly to your machine

HI I have Windows 7, they're up to date. Anyway, I wouldn't need to update anything because last time it did this I didn't update anything and ended up fixing it. It's like something randomly started running and is causing everything else to run slow. Can you maybe look at these and see if you notice something? Is there anyway that I can see what has started running on the 31st at 9 am?

+12 volt rail is not right at all.It should be at 11.50 and yours is at 1.60
Next is your Win7 ultimate is it a 32 bit or 64 bit version?
I also see you have Utorrent installed which may be the cause. Did you recently download and install something using P2P?

32, I have no idea about this "+12 volt rail is not right at all.It should be at 11.50 and yours is at 1.60". Utorrent is fine and no I haven't downloaded or installed anything. I woke up that morning  and turned on my PC and got 10 fps when I had 60 the night before. I noticed the windows icon was gone from the bottom so I checked the updates it had installed and those were the only 2. They installed then I started having problems

Hello rshaffer61. Don't want to interfere but, Speedfan has not been reading the +12 rail accurate for some reason.

That would not be good if the reading was accurate.

My bad! Looks like HW Monitor is reading the same. Sorry

Is this normal for it to be jumping up and down like this? Only thing I've had open is what you see.

http://ft.trillian.i...wBFuX8miftE.jpg

Also the +12 is going from 1.6 to 2.7

I just checked my Task Manager for CPU usage and yes it is jumping also.
If your +12 volt rail is really doing what you say then that is a problem. Can you check and see if your bios has a power area that displays the rail info also.
Next can you tell me what the PSU make and model is along with the video card specs.
You never responded with did you recently download and install something from Utorrent?

Your installed driver for your video card is 4 years old. Please go to the manufacturers website and check for a newer version. If none showing let me know and I can post the instructions for DriverMax which usually will find a newer version for most hardware.
Also when you first turn system on if you start clicking Del you should be able to get into the bios. Please do not make any changes as it could cause your system not to boot. Look for a tab or area that says power and see if the rails are shown there. Post the +12 volt rail reading if available.
