Hi, my C:\ drive seems to be corrupt in some way that I can't understand and every time I boot up my laptop my computer starts a disk check.

The downside is the laptop used to be my dad's until he spilled beer on the keyboard and passed it down to whoever wants to use it. I use a keyboard that I place on top of the old one to type, but the old one has some messed up keys. For example, as soon as the startup gets passed the 'Windows is starting' screen (which is right into Check disk!) the 'k' button gets stuck down and cancels it.

If I press 'k' it will disable the button but I can only do it after the checkdisk so its pointless..

How can I fix this? Possibly without removing the keyboard internally? It's an Asus U52F

Referencing the first link I definitely want it to be running.. I was hoping I could fix it for free though :/.

OTL won't even scan part of the computer because it is coming back corrupt

I think ^

It gave me an error, not 100% of what

 It's free to read the page. And if it applies, simply follow those instructions.

Recommend downloading and burning the Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD) to CD. It has Hard Drive diagnostics (plus much more). Simply boot your computer from this CD and select the utility you want to run.

Note: If you aren't sure who made the hard drive in your computer, use Seagate's Seatools as it will work with most any make of drive.

The following instructions may prove helpful for burning the UBCD .iso file to disc: How can I write (burn) ISO files to CD or DVD?

"The file or directory C: is unreadable please run the Check disk utility"

Also I know the first link was free, I meant the keyboard bit :P

That's not the problem was what I was trying to say.

I also left out I'm on Windows 7.

If the hard drive has passed the diagnostic test, run CHKDSK next.
Support.Microsoft.com > Check your hard disk for errors in Windows 7

If CHKDSK is repeatedly running every time you start Windows 7 (or Windows 8), see these instructions:
Support.Microsoft.com > Check disk (Chkdsk) runs when you start Windows 8 or Windows 7

Since I seriously doubt that anyone would be willing to manufacture and send you a new keyboard for free, the only other alternative I can think of is to try and clean up the mess: Disassemble the keyboard, thoroughly wash out all of the dried beer, and any other crude and residue, thoroughly rinse out all of the soap, thoroughly dry all of the pieces and then reassemble the keyboard.

Note that sometimes parts are manufactured with no forethought whatsoever paid to future disassembly. In other words, the only way to disassemble them will actually require breaking or otherwise destroying bits and pieces in order to get them apart. :(

Sounds like I'll be paying for this one then

I'll have to do the chkdsk later, don't have the mindset for it right now.

THanks for the info though

_IF_ your Dad is one of those (like me) that has reminded you time and time again to 'clean up after yourself', now might be a good time to see if he'd be willing to pay for cleaning up his beer mess? ;)

Possibly on different terms, but considering I'm using it because my Macbook's hard drive died I'm not sure if I'd be so lucky, worth a shot though  :P.
