Hello LESl

I don't know a lot about W8, but I would think it would be pretty fast.

Has it always been slow?

There's a feature for W7. It's called Resource Monitor.

Type resmon in the search orb. Lots of good information there,

if W8 has that feature???

What browsers are you using and what Anti-Virus program do you have?

If your using Norton, you need to chance!

Donetao,

Here's a briefing on the resmon:

33-50% cpu usage ; showing high peaks

disk shows some medium peaks

network showing some high peaks that go to the top of the graph

65% physical memory usage

I don't know how to read these charts quite frankly...the computer hasn't always been this slow.  I use Chrome and Avast antivirus.  GtoGo / Pystryker set me up with a bunch of malware and other programs to help too.

I put my data onto this computer from my old one about a year ago,...not sure if that's the problem...but the technicians never said anything and they had to fix this twice after I bought it.

So, let me know what else I can do to read the chart to know what action steps to take if you can...I'd be most appreciative.

Hello LESl

I don't have W8.

The memory and CPU are the main ones to watch.

You might try a clean boot and try to narror down things causing a slow system.

I'm off to the doctor. Be back later!

Thanks for the update and Avast information acknowledged

Couple of things of note;

1: This is in no way intended as malware guidance as only the experts on those forums are qualified to offer that type of support but you have SuperAntiSpyware and Unchecky both running, I have read that this can cause problems when SAS reports Unchecky as being malicious, I will ask Pystryker to advise you on this.

2: You have 4GB of Ram and so should have a pagefile that is 1.5 times equal to that and so should have a 6GB pagefile, Speccy shows that you only have 3.97GB, see below

Physical Memory
Memory Usage:
47 %
Total Physical:
3.58 GB
Available Physical:
1.88 GB
Total Virtual:
3.97 GB
Available Virtual:
1.57 GB

To correct this;

Open My Computer. At the top right, there is a search field...type pagefile.sys and click the search icon. In the search results, right click on the file (pagefile.sys) and choose Delete...confirm the deletion.

Restart your machine. A new pagefile will be created automatically when the machine starts.

Check that the new pagefile is 6GB or more, if not I will provide the steps for you to set it manually.

Phillpower,  I am not sure I'm going to the correct location.  I have Win 8.1 and I cannot find the My Computer location.  I tried to access the pagefile.sys from the search box that hides/unhides on the right side of the screen and found that took me to a page of options for learning the entire program.  I also tried going to My PC and it took forever to find it....getting stuck at the end just before completion on 2 separate attempts.

Can you help me with a few answers to fill in how I should properly go about this?  Thank you very much.

Hello LESI,

Apologies, I also have 8.1 but have it set up similar to Windows 7  :whistling:

See if the tutorial provided here courtesy of Brink on the Windows forums helps

Phillpower,

I'm working on this...trying to understand all the different choices about how to go about this.  I understand the basic idea, yet there are a lot of warnings about doing it the wrong way.  So stay with me please, and I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Thanks,

LESI  :geek:
