After uninstalling a codec pack , my resolution has changed and video quality is poor.Youtube appears to be fine

but any AVI MP4 etc is minutely pixalated to the point where the image has an unpleasant sharpness to it.

Have tried adjusting dpi settings but the preffered 1920 1080 and 1600 1200 setting have vanished.

OS is XP.

Can anyone help.

Ive consulted several youtube tutorials and have scoured the web for several hours , but have come up blank.

Help!

Try a System Restore to before you uninstalled the Codec Pack.

No idea why that should affect resolution but since it did, try going back to before it happened.

Is this the actual computer resolution? Or only when you are playing media?

Yes the screen is like this all the time.Looks ugly.

The only available resolution is 800 by 600 and 1024 by 768.

The last available restore point is several hours after this occured.

Hello!

Have you tried to up date your video drivers?

After Goggling your problem, that seems to be the number one suggestion.

I had that problem on a old Dell with XP once, but this old mind just won't let me remember what I did to fix it.

I have always made back up images of my OS on a external drive, so I probably just used the back up image.

What make and model is your machine??

Might do a sfc scannow . Won't hurt any thing!

Hi

Model is ASUS A6000.

Tried running sfc scannow , which completes and then dissapears.

I thought it might be a driver issue but am having trouble determing how to reinstall the correct one.

Wizard is also prompting me to install video controller but cannot install beacause it cannot find the nescasary software.

Ive also noticed that when im closing down , the standby option is not available.

Its dsplayed but its kind of drained of color as if to signify its no longer an option.

Hello!

I think these are your drivers.

Drivers aren't my strong suit!

Here's a zip showing you how to find the sfc /scannow! I created this with the PSR feature in W7, which no one uses.

Hi

Ive had a look at the wininit zip and it differs a little from what im using.

Theres no windows log to click on but something similiar is displayed in application.

However,  the find option doesnt recognize the name 'wininit' and the search fails.

Thanks for your help so far.
