Ooh. I'll have to look into that, then. But yes, I just started it up and the touchpad remained off as it should be. There was a bit of a stalling issue with HP Wireless Assistant, which I forgot to disable, but otherwise all seems well.

 

Combofix is, of course, installed again because I had to restore to a point before the tool removal when my recycle bin got corrupted. I'm a little worried of a repeat, but I'll follow your guidance on what to do in that regard, now.

 

Also, I seriously haven't said it enough, so thank you very much. I was nearly convinced there'd be no getting this thing back to even a slightly functional state.

For delfix just select "remove disinfection tools" and leave the remainder unchecked

It was a nice little training exercise for me sorting this out

Just so I'm sure and I'm not doing more than I should, does that mean to only run delfix with that option, and not the Combofix removal posted previously?

Yes that is right, delfix will also remove combofix

Bad weather got in the way yesterday; I didn't want to risk having my computer on if the power went out, since the battery's totally useless now. But I just ran delfix as instructed, and all seems to have gone well. No currupted recycle bin!

 

Not sure if you needed it, but here's the log delfix presented upon completion. It didn't do that last time.
