Hello,

Brand new here and I've got an issue that ya'll are going to think I'm making up! I'm an electrical engineer by trade and have been building computers for 20 years and this has me scratching my head.

I have 2 desktops shared via a KVM. When I switch from my main machine to my secondary, the instant I push the button on the KVM my XFinity cable modem loses it's signal coming on from the wall!?

I've gone so far as to disconnect  all the CAT5 cables even though they don't run through the KVM. Heck, I can even shut down both computers but as soon as I hit that KVM button the LEDs on the cable modem slowly drop out one by one.

Hey I'm completely serious and will be genuinely surprised if anyone has an answer or has experince something similar. The only thing I can gues is maybe some type of RF interference though the KVM is not wireless and shouldn't be emitting any type of significant signal.

Going to pull the desk out today and try rerouting cables to gaim maximum sepration bewteen the KVM and cable modem.

Is the cable modem powered by the USB or anyway connected to the computer by something other than the ethernet cable?

Eliminate the KVM from the circuit, connect each computer, one at a time, directly to the modem, then, if it has 2 ports, connect both.

Do you still get fade out?
