Hi all, Hoping that someone can help me figure out what seems to be a common problem but no TWO scenarios seem to be EXACTLY the same. The Off=On button doesn't work on this 2011 Vaio Laptop i recently acquired or in reality liberated from the trash bin along with the power pak, spare battery, and cords. I managed to hotwire it into service by touching two battery pins together momentarily only to get a green light, flashing orange lite when battery installed, a HDD that spins but doesn't seem to be reading or writing (ie., your normal boot up sounds), and a totally black screen. No function buttons or combination of seem to make any indication that they actually do anything at all. Caps, Num locks, Task Manager (cntr, alt, del) nothing fizzes this thing. BUT it is a beauty, pearl white,  not a scratch, 500gb HDD, Windows 7, AMD Radeon Graphics, AMD Visions etc. As for memory, ram, processors and the like iv'e been unable to determine. I had removed the HDD and inserted it into an HP--XP-Pro SP3 and ran diagnostics and it came up clear of any errors except that it wasn't able to restore the computer to an earlier date. The DVD RW seems to read a disk but soons stops once it has initialized the disk and contributes nothing. It doesn't make a sound on start=up or after pushing keys repeatedly or turn off after pressing and holding i\o switch for any length of time. The only way is to pull the batt and unplug AC.. So===if there is anyone with or has had this kind of problem and had a satisfactory conclusion to it i would be most grateful, maybe I'll fix your car for you because i'm a better auto tech than a computer whiz at this point lol.

Yes---- i have considered putting it back where i found it ! Or at the very least a proper burial after cannibalizing it. But as i've read in other discussions this black screen. no boot is a common problem with this model and others. Iv'e heard everything from a faulty on-off switch (unlikely) to possibly a graphics card issue (more likely) to a blown motherboard (highly possible). So given that it is a common issue surely someone out there has an idea at maybe where to begin a diagnostic, somewhere to intercept the bios or the drive before it crashes. Besides i like a good puzzle!
