I'm coming here from another thread, thanks to Naat the problem seems to be resolved.
I also had an Windows update, computer checked my file system for consistency and the mashine starts up normally again.
My problem now as before is that for some reason I don't have internet accsses, I can however connect to my neighbour's internet no problem.
I have phoned my internet provider and while at first they reported problems on their side, they later on stated that the cause of the disturbance is on my end.
I have a seperate modem and router.
I have switched of the power and back on again, connected the computer directly to the modem of no avail.

They want to send a technician but if the fault is with my computer I have to pay for the service, and I can't afford that.
An old boyfriend(IT guy dealing with connectivity between computers) used to interefer with my internet accsses before, I doubt that this is the problem now but I just want to make sure.

Is it possible for you to check that my computer is in good working order and not the cause of my internet connectivity problem? I would very much apreciate it.

I'm using Windows 7, 32- bit Operating System

My computer doesn't want to start normally, it does a start up repair, tells me root causes found: registry is corrupt, repair action: system restore.
After it does the system restore computer runs normally

What do you see in device Manager? Are there any yellow marks??

HI donetao, thanks for your reply.

I wasn't feeling well and busy, sorry for posting so late.

When I check my device manager there are no yellow marks.

Here is the info about my computer:

 

Compaq
Presario CQ42

Windows 7

Processor: AMD Athlon™II P320
Dual-Core Processor 2.10
GHz
32-bit Operating system

Hello janji!

I;m not sure what you mean by checking your computer. If you can successfully get on the internet at your neighbors, I would have to say your ISP is at fault. Are there any bars in your tray by the clock. Right click on the bars and click on troubleshoot!

That's a good way to test your internet connection. I have told people to take their lap top to the library and see if they can get on the internet.

Does the router belong to you or is it provided by your ISP? If its yours, then you will be billed. Here's a great link for your drivers and other great information.

Thanks very much for your advice, the modem belongs to my ISP. So after this I will call them to come over and see what went wrong.

I think I've done everything I can to see that it's not my computer that is at fault, hopefully all be well.

I've bookmarked the sites you've linked me to and downloaded CCleaner, thanks very much, especially for the HP support site.

I'll let you know how it works out!

Hello Janji, if I may for a moment
 
As CCleaner is a quite good tool to maintain your machine, stay away (especially in your case) from its registry cleaning ability.
 
This is what I usually paste about registry cleaners at all:

Registry Cleaner/System Optimizer Warning

• CCleaner

I saw this kind of software installed on your machine. I really doubt it will speed up your system, instead (without some Registry knowledge) may do more harm than good. Please read the articles mentioned below:
Microsoft support policy for the use of registry cleaning utilities
Miekiemoes (Microsoft MVP) blog

So if you wish to stay with it, it's fine. Just refrain from any registry cleaning.

Thanks for the warning, I'm not going to touch that registery cleaner!
However I will use CCleaner to clean computer, uninstall programmes, system restore point etc.

So I've uninstalled AdvancedUninstaller because I don't need it anymore, no point cluttering up my computer.
What was the programme you've noticed? I will uninstall it.

I was referring exactly to CCleaner. As I find some of its abilities great, it can be also harmful when it comes to cleaning the registry. Read the articles I've provided.

So use it, just stay away from messing the registry. And once more I'm glad I could help

Ah, ok, I din't make myself clear, when I said that I'm not going to touch that registry cleaner I meant the registry cleaning feature in CCleaner, thanks.

I've read the articles and since I'm not knowledgable enough to use it correctly I will abstain, don't want my computer to get messed up again.

Anything, I will come back to this exellent Forum.

I repeat "I do not suggest using registry cleaners"

Threaten your ISP if they try to bill you. Tell them you will find a better ISP that gives better service.

While CCleaner does include a registry cleaner, I’d recommend against running it. The Windows registry contains hundreds of thousands of entries; removing a few hundred (at most) won’t give you an increase in performance. Registry cleaners can accidentally remove important registry values, however, so there’s risk with little reward.

That said, if you’re dead set on running a registry cleaner, CCleaner is one of the safer ones. If you do run the registry cleaner, ensure you back up any changes you make. You can restore the deleted registry entries from the backup file if you encounter any problems.

PS CCleaner gives you that option to back up the deleted registry entries it deletes!!
