How to tell how many Watts is needed for a build?

Alright here is the thing I am looking to upgrading my video-card after much thought and I am wondering if I have a good enough power supply to run everything.

 

This is my power supply:

 

CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750W ATX12V

 
This is the card I am upgrading to:

EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Superclocked
 
 Now these are my computers specs

 

Case --------------- NZXT Phantom

Motherboard ----- ASUS P8Z77-V LE PLUS

CPU ---------------- Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge

SSD(2) ------------ SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series

Hardrive -----------Seagate Barracuda 1TB

RAM ----------------G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)

As a rough guide I usually take the max TDP (Thermal Design Power) of the CPU and video card, add 100W for system components and add 30% for overhead and expansion (power supplies are generally about 80% efficient).

 

An Intel i5-3570K CPU has a max TDP of 77W (if not overclocked). A GTX 750 Ti has a max TDP of 250W (not overclocked). So, 250W + 77W + 100W = 427W + 30% = 610W. It just so happens that the recommended minimum size power supply for a GTX750Ti is 600W,

 

Many power supply calculators online have outdated info, or are widely inaccurate (looking at you NewEgg), but this one seems pretty accurate: http://powersupplycalculator.net/ Plugging in the components you list, they recommend 455W.

 

Your power supply should be just fine. :thumbsup:
