First of all sorry if im posting in the wrong section this one was most suitable in my opinion, if needed moderators can move it into other section where it should be.

I have Genius 5.1 Speakers SW-HF 5100 180W. My problem is when ever a light switch in the hall way is turned on, my air conditioner changes his option (when its automatic turning higher speed of fan etc) and when the light switch in the bathroom is turned on there is like a small pop sound coming from the speakers. My question is why does that happened, is there any way to stop it and can it harm the speakers or other system hardware.

Thank you in advance :)

Hi INJAC,

Not an electrician, but sounds like spikes maybe, something in wiring is wrong bad ground, wire gauge size.

Do you have the PC in a surge protector

Hello INJAC,

I'd have the bathroom switch replaced, it may be arching causing electromagnetic waves that induce noise into the speakers.

Not sure what is going on with the air conditioner or hall switch

Is the Electric old?

Thanks
Joe :)

You do have a serious electrical issue with the house wiring.

The lighting circuit is completely separate from the power circuit, (TV, kettle, heater etc.). Operating a light switch should not effect the air conditioner.

If you are in a rented accommodation, inform the relevant person or authority.

If it is your house, get the wiring checked by a qualified electrician.

Well i had my speakers recently fixed cause, my bass was broken and everything, when i was in my other house tested everything and everything was good, but when i moved back to my apartment these problems started

And yes my pc is in the same surge protector as my speakers.

I dont know it might be the electromagnatic waves but im not sure how it can effect when its around 6meteres away from the speakers
The speakers are 4 years old, and the apartment building was built in 2004 so i dont consider it old

It might be that the wiring in my house is very bad, cause most of todays buildings here that are build are done very fast and with minimal recourses

Here is a picture of how it all looks

Thank you all for your time and quick reply on the post hope the image helps, if its about the apartment wiring well i guess there is not help to that, my next question would be if that can be harmfull to the speakers :)

Hi, a lot depends on how loud this pop is in comparison to the normal sound level which you have set for music or other sounds. if just a faint one then no it shouldn't cause a problem to speakers or other audio equipment including the computer.

What you can do to minimise the clicks and pops is to install some ferrite rings on the mains cable to the computer, speakers, or other audio equipment mains power leads including the one to the surge protector.

The other way is to put these rings on the wiring at the switches that are causing this noise, though I recommend a qualified electrician to do that one for you.

Here are some in line rings designed for that purpose.

Edit to add, I have found an excelent article regarding the use of ferrite filters and an explanation as to how this interference is caused along with possible cures.
