Also, depending on the IM you are using, make sure that security is set so strangers not on your contact list cannot contact you.

I had to deal with a stalker before and the sites he was using (twitter, facebook, others) wouldn't reveal his IP address or any other information. I just figured it was the same person. I would report the person and maybe your service will look into both of his possible accounts and delete from their end without revealing his personal info to you.
