Hey guys,
 
I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in my build, MB is old but looking to fill 2 DIMM slots with 2x 4gb.

I have no clue what RAM to order and don't want to get it wrong, any help is very much appreciated! 

 

OS - Windows 7, 64bit

CPU - Intel Core2 Quad-Core CPU Q8200
Motherboard - ASRock > G31M - S

it suggests - CT973806 - 4GB kit (2GBx2) DDR2 PC2-6400 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.8V 256Meg x 64

The same on UK version

 

 

 

I was looking at this RAM as it's for gaming with heat sink ect but unsure if supported by MB, i mean it meets all requirements but is there no way to know for sure?

CORSAIR XMS2 4G 800 2x2 DDR2

 

Also I'm not 100% but it is 250pin I'm looking for right?

Hello kweno,

 

Conflicting results from Crucial and your MB specs so can you do another check for us please, download then run Speccy and post the resultant url for us please, details here this will hopefully confirm that the MB will accept 2 X 4GB sticks of 240 pin DDR2 Ram, having 8GB of Ram would get the best from your 64-bit OS and make an all around improvement, problem is DDR2 Ram is expensive and 8GB will cost circa £140+ for the least expensive, example here

Thanks for this Phil, yeah i agree, 8GB is the goal, but i guess 4GB will do until a new build.

Thanks for the Speccy url which has confirmed that Crucial had the correct MB, the tool does sometimes get it wrong so try the alternative here and see what is suggested.

8GB of Ram would be nice but not at any cost, 4GB will be fine and certainly be noticeable when you have it
