Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 17R-5721 with Windows 8.1 and an Intel core i3 processor

The problem I am getting is that when I start the machine it boots up to where I put in a password and after I do that it goes to a black screen where I can only move around the curser.  I don't think it's a virus issue I think the problem is with the graphics driver.  I could be wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, a few questions:

1.) Have you attempted to boot into safe mode? Does video work in safe mode?

2.) What have you done to rule out a virus infection and to limit it to a video driver problem?

3.) What happened before the problem began?

Thanks,

First, a few questions:

1.) Have you attempted to boot into safe mode? Does video work in safe mode?  - Yes and it does!!

2.) What have you done to rule out a virus infection and to limit it to a video driver problem? - Was reading online that other people have had the same issue with the same graphix card.

3.) What happened before the problem began? - Nothing.  The problem just happened.

Thanks,

Turns out that it was a virus issue, I ran MAlware bytes just to be on the safe side and it found over 700 threats and my desktop came back up.  I should probably post in the MAlware to have them help me clean the rest of this up.

Thanks,
