When I go to the windows update site and it scans my system I get:

We're sorry (Error number 0x8DDD0002)
To install items from Windows Update, you must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure.

I have a Dell laptop running xp pro corporate that I goy from ebay. I share a cable connection through a router hub. The other computer is a HP that has automatic updates through HP (hopefully extra info helps).
Any sugestions would be greatfully appreciated.

Thanks Keith. I ended up using the Microsoft link for other brousers with my firefox and was able to check out the downloads site. I still don't have automatic updates but at least I can see what they have to offer by date.
