I'm looking to buy a new monitor but I'm all confused and stumped by all these VGA, DVI and HDMI thingy...  

 

I'm playing with GTX 770 and looking for a monitor with resolution 1920x1080. I've already marked a few monitors but some of them are stated to be Full HD but without HDMI... What is HDMI exactly for? :S

 

For example this Acer S220HQL Full HD monitor. One comes with VGA + DVI + HDMI, while the other one only has VGA + DVI.

 

And right now, a seller is offering me the same monitor (Full HD) and he stated that it comes with a DVI to HDMI cable. Is it good enough? Will it be full HD overall?

HDMI = High-Definition Multimedia Interface and is just a more advanced way of transmitting a signal than say VGA or DVI etc.

 

Using any type of adapter to convert one type of port to another comes with the risk of the signal quality being reduced.

 

If you tell us your maximum budget, what the main use of the computer/display will be and the country in which you will make the purchase we can do some research and make some suggestions for you.

vga is an analogue signal connection.
 
dvi and hdmi are both digital signal connections.
 
"HD" doesn't really mean anything it is just a tv pictures resolution size and something tv retailers liked to make a big selling point of even tho the picture you were watching on your "hd" tv wasn't actually a true hd picture, and still isn't in most cases but true hd tv pictures are a lot more common now.
1920x1080 is what is called "HD 1080" and 1280x720 is "HD 720" every monitor i've ever owned can be called an "HD" monitor.

I've done a ton of research on monitors lately " gaming monitors" and cant believe what I've been missing. From response time to refresh rate to size on gaming monitors, After doing much research "hours and hours" lol, for the last couple of years I've been playing world of tanks on a 20'' dell monitor and everything seemed fine, a little lagggy and a refresh rate of 60Hz, but a few weeks ago I bought a Acer GN246HL 24" from Newegg and OMG what a difference it makes, and not because of the size but because It has a 1ms response time, the fastest you can get, 144Hz refresh rate, more than 2x what my dell has, 1920x1080 3D full HD for $239.00. My online gaming is 100x better now then it ever was, I actually get the first shot off now, instead of the other way around. I am absolutely sold on this type of monitor. Do your research. youtube is a great place to start, its how I came to buy this AWESOME monitor. Hope this helps and good luck
