Hey everyone.
Since 2 months or so my Firefox is lagging and quite slow. Especially when scrolling down my Facebookpage where it has to load much data. I hoped upgrading my system would solve the problem, but it didn't. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. All updates are installed.

Here are my system specs:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 4GB WINDFORCE
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3
Hard drive: WD5000AAKS (500 GB)

Solid State Drive: Crucial M550 128GB
Main memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Power supply unit: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze
DVD burner: LG GH-22NS40
Case: Xigmatek Asgard
Fan: Xigmatek XLF-F1253 LED
CPU cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper TX3

Any suggestions on how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance, Xeni :)

Hello Xeni

System specs. are good, but you say

Firefox is slow and lagging.

So more information pertaining

to this most wonderful web browser

would be helpful.

Do you have Add-ons installed?

If so, which ones? Did you install any

around the time your issue began?

Especially when scrolling down my Facebookpage where it has to load much data.

This pretty much speaks for itself.

The more data that has to load,

the longer it's gonna take.

No matter how fast your system,

connection or web browser happen to be.

Thank you and have a great day.

Hi Xeni,

What type of connection do you have? Hard wired or wireless? If wireless, how far away from the router are you?

Which version of Firefox is installed? Is it up to date. I have been noticing some freezing myself since I updated to the latest version which is 32.0.

You could give Speedy Fox a whirl and see if that helps.

I am using Adblock Plus, NoScript and WOT since 2 years or so.

I am connected via WLAN, my computer is exactly 1 floor underneath the router. The connection should be fine.

I am using version 32...

I'll give that a try, will report later.

Thanks for your replies!

Since 2 months or so my Firefox is lagging and quite slow.

Another thought crossed my mind....

When I have family over and they start connecting their computers up to my network, it "thins" out the available bandwidth and slows down my loading of data, kind of like when you have the water running in the shower and someone flushes the toilet. (I hate it when they do that! Brrrr!)

My router is on the floor above me as well, though I am wireless (laptop). No issues with my desktop which is 3 feet from the router/modem.

I ran Speedy Fox last night myself. No freezing so far.

Mostly my computer is the only device connected. Sometimes my brother is surfing with his laptop(not having issues...).

Well, I would prefer that. When someone flushes the toilet in my bath, the water in the shower becomes super hot for 2 seconds. :ranting:

I ran Speedy Fox last night myself. No freezing so far.

Still having the same issues. I can't see any improvements.

Well. You did mention Facebook. Do you notice this happening more so during peak hours and does this happen elsewhere? Could be Facebook. There are times when I have to wait while past data on my time line is loaded, though today no issues at all. Could also be the result of it being 9:30am where I am and everybody is getting ready for church.

It's not only Facebook, but also Youtube and other sites. Also when I simply open a new tab with ctrl + t, it sometimes freezes for 1 or 2 seconds.

One thing not mentioned, do you know what connection speed you should be getting and what it actually is? try a speed check with the Ookla speed check here

http://www.speedtest.net/

If your brother is also using the exact same internet connection and internet service provider, ask him to run the same check, if the same results it is your line or service provider, if his shows a much faster speed, it is possibly your own connection and may even be the LAN card in your computer.

Nev.

I don't think that my connection is the problem but Firefox. Maybe I'll try Chrome later on.

Well, I tested some sites and scenarios with Chrome and IE and I have to admit that scrolling and everything is actually really smooth.
I also tried resetting Firefox, didn't change anything.
I'd prefer to keep Firefox, does anyone has other ideas?

I'd appreciate it a lot!

Hello Xeni

I hate to admit it because I love Firefox,

but I have noticed it running very slow

on my system as well.

One thing I noticed was whenever I went

to a page that required flash palyer

it would start to lag bad. It was because

the plugin-container.exe would fire up

and that would seem to slow things down.

What I did was blocked plugin-container.exe

from being able to execute. This actually seemed

to help. I also tried letting it run, but blocking it

from the net with my firewall. This seemed to

work as well.

Just an idea.

Thank you and have a great day.

Hello Xeni

Update: Stopping plugin-container.exe from running

really seemed to speed up Firefox and made

it feel a lot more stable.

The plugin container is for running flash within Firefox

in a separate process to, supposedly, stop Firefox from crashing.

Great job guys... :spoton:

If your interested in trying this, here's how:

Right click on My Computer

and select properties.

Click Advanced System Settings in the left column.

Now in the system properties select the advanced

tab and click Environment Variables.

Finally under System Variables click New.

A box will open. For Variable add this line:

MOZ_DISABLE_OOP_PLUGINS

For Value just add the number: 1

To reverse this just delete the

line you added in Environment Variables.

If you decide to try this, I hope it helps.

Thank you and have a great day.

Thanks for your reply!

I could imagine that this could improve the speed of my Firefox.

I'll try that tomorrow when I'm recovered from today evening/night  :spoton:

Hello Xeni

Okay yeah, give it a try and let us know if that helped at all.

There is a possibility some sites which have flash embedded
might not display correctly.

However I personally have'nt had any issues.

Thank you and have a nice day.
