Hi I am new to computing and have been given a xps m1730 and it is running windows vista 32 bit.

1. At the moment my computer has a 200g hard drive that has come with and i would like to upgrade to a terabyte hard drive ( 2 500g http://www.wdc.com/e...cts.aspx?id=780 ). Is my computer able to upgrade to this capacity or is it to high ?

2. Can I upgrade to windows 7 ?

3. Is my computer 64bit compatible ?

4. The battery doesn't charge, is this the charger or the battery that is the problem ?

Please Help !

:welcome:    Dodds.Taj

A1 = Yes but you will need the smaller 2.5" type drive like the example here

A2 = Computers that can run Vista more often than not can run Windows 7 and even 8/8.1, you can double check this using the Windows 7 upgrade advisor tool from here

A3 = Yes, your computer was also available with 64-bit Vista as an option which suggest that the answer is yes and the Intel Core 2 Duo CPU is also 64-bit, see here

A4 = The battery is the most likely culprit, it may have simply outlived it`s recharge cycle count or it may have been continuously used when the AC adapter was also connected and this will reduce the lifetime of the battery, please note that Dell notebooks are notorious for not liking third party replacement batteries so you should save yourself time and trouble and only purchase a Dell battery.
