My webcam recently stopped working.  I have an HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC.

When I use a the built-in webcam (with Skype, gmail, Youcam, etc.) the light next to the webcam might light up for a second or two but then it goes off. Nothing comes up in the video feed and I hear the standard USB plugin noise. A little alert pops up saying that the USB device can perform faster.

Is the webcam broken? or could it be a software issue?

The computer (device manager) says that there isn't a problem with the webcam...

It is odd that you get a USB message when the webcam is integrated into the MB, do you have any other USB hardware plugged into your ports.

The webcam light going off and on could mean that there is a poor connection between the webcam and the MB, this can happen through nothing more than the notebook screen being regularly opened and closed but is more likely to happen if the screen/lid is opened too wide.

Do you use the Cyberlink webcam software that HP provides, if yes, download and save the software from here, create a new restore point, uninstall the webcam in Device Manager, restart the notebook, reinstall the software and test.
