Dell VOSTRO #%^)
WIN 7, 64 BIT. SP1, UPDATES APPLIED REENTLY

several days after I removed some malware using Combofix my son installed the game X3, and he drivers for an xbox controller.

Then reboot.

nothing - it was like the HD failed.

windows recovery and farbar could not find OS

hich

went into BIOS and saw the HD was set to "Intel smart store technology, and not AHCI or ATA as expected.

AHCI was the same - I ddint think it was ACHi at setup

ATA allowed me to boot into a console from setup media, used diskpart to find drive letter, and verify directories would open and files could at least be dumped to console

Was able to run Farbar, after which the drives started showing up at expected drive letters and Startup repari ran sucessfully after finding problems twice

after about 6 runs tho I cant escape the startup repair which lauches after normal boot activity (APPARENTLY) FAILS -

I dont get the white on black text modescreen offering to run startup, it goes straight to normal boot and sometime after "loading files" the screen resets and the GUI startup repiar starts as if it were the boot option
