So this new problem just started last night.  My monitor shuts off.  The blue power light is still on, but the monitor is black.  If I power the monitor on and off again, I can see that the computer is still on and I see my desktop for about 3 seconds, before the monitor goes black again.  It's extremely frustrating!

Okay, I figured it out.  It's my monitor.  I plugged in an old tiny monitor and that is working fine, but it is NOT configured correctly for the tiny monitor.

I have a Vison M198ADD monitor and it just will not show the desktop for more than 3 seconds at a time.  Is there something I could do besides buying a new monitor?

I thought it was the power cord, but it's the monitor.

It is hard to say what it is.

Does the monitor have a menu button? If so, when you press that does the menu show on the screen? If not, then it could be the backlight is going out. It is possible that it could be fixed, but often it is more expensive to fix it than to replace it.

If the menu shows, you might also check the cables to make sure there isn't a bad connection.

This is strange.  I received about 5 replies from different people to this post and only 1 is showing from Kemasa.  Well, if it is more expensive to fix, than obviously I'm not going to do that.  It's so frustrating to buy a computer, knowing that in about 5 years give or take a few months, it will start experiencing major problems.  In 2008 I bought the computer and the monitor and now both are acting up.  Same thing with the previous computer - 5 years.  So tired of the planned obsolescence.

Yes, there are issues with spammers and those posts tend to get removed. You can check with places to see if they can repair it, but don't agree to the repairs unless you know what the cost is. They might have another monitor that they can take parts from. Also ask about a warranty. You don't want to pay to fix it and then have it die a short time later. You might also look at some of the HDTVs since sometimes it can be cheaper (assuming the size and resolution is acceptable) to use those as a monitor.
