I have some important text files.They are currently saved on windows 7 notepad files.I decided to backup and store them for long term.

 

 

My questions are:

 

 

 

1-Which file format is the safest one for storage?

 

2-Should i scan them periodically against data corruption?If so which program should i use?

 

3-Other than those what should i do to store my text files safely?

Hi and

Considering that Notepad, is Windows own format so therefore readable on even a basic Windows computer I would leave them in that format.

 

Next would be to burn them to CD or DVD disks, twice!! then name and number the disks as one, and two. Or if the files require two disks, then name as set A, and set B.

 

The reason for twice is just on the off chance one of the disks gets damaged.

 

As far as periodic checks, it is just a matter of popping the disk into the drive and check it is still readable, no need for any software.

 

You can add belt and braces after that by uploading the files to any one of the file and data hosting sites as well.
