Hi I'm hoping someone can help. 

 

I am running windows 8.1 on my ASUS G750JW 

Processor : intel core i7-4700HQ

RAM: 22GB

x64 operating system

 

My issues seem to have started after last night when I stupidly made another user account on it so my fiancee (major technophobe) could watch some movies. I have asked him what he did but he doesn't know.

 

There is several issues going on at the moment.. 

 

Audio is not working

Control panel is unresponsive

Windows update is unresponsive

System repair and system restore are not working and coming up with an error saying a file cannot be accessed and to check anti virus software is not running ( i was using safe mode so they weren't)

Event viewer has got so many errors coming up I dont know where to start. 

Device driver goes unresponsive when checking for updates to drivers

 

I have tried reg cure pro and TDSSkiller which have found nothing. 

 

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to go about sorting this out without a total format?

Was the account you made an Administrator account or a normal user level account? If Admninistrator, change it to a normal, non-Administrator account once this is cleaned up to protect yourself in the future.

Log into your own account, then open a Elevated Command Prompt and enable teh hidden Administrator account.
 

Press WIN + X to open Start context menu.

Select Command Prompt (Admin)​.

 

Type net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter.

 

Reboot but chose Administrator to login as. May take a few minutes to create it's Desktop and setup stuff if you've never logged in as Administrator before.

 

Open a Elevated Command Prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Let it complete.

 

Report back with results.

Hi thanks for replying. I'm not completely sure how I managed it but it is back to normal now. The last things I did was investigate the sound issue which turned out to be AVG putting the system files in the vault along with a lot of other ones which I restored. It is a relatively new computer and I haven't downloaded anything suspect apart from the usual chrome etc so I knew they weren't viruses.

 

I also changed the virtual memory paging file from automatic to the recommended size and did a memory check.

Glad you got it sorted cazfromwales but if I could make a suggestion 

 

AVG is a hog on system resources and not as good as it once was so if it is the free version uninstall it and use either Avast free or the upgraded version of Windows Defender that Windows 8/8.1 has, the new version of Defender provides the same real time protection that Microsoft Security Essentials does and so you do not actually need a third party AV software + not having a third party AV reduces the risk of software conflicts and issues such as this one.

 

Create a new restore point.

Use the AVG removal tool from here

Restart the computer and check in the Security Centre that Windows Defender is enabled.
