well could not download the two programs you recommended. Got half way into install and it just sat there for hours. Now sadly I am back to the blue screen. Asks for sign and then its stuck on blue screen.

Let's deal with the machine first and then talk about where the issue originates (Granddaughter or elsewhere) later. :)    Don't lose heart, one way or another (unless there is a hardware issue), we can get you up and working. If it's a hardware issue, then that's beyond my skill level ;)

Do you have the original Operating System discs that came with the machine?

If you were to reinstall the Operating System, would you be losing any data of importance? i.e. is your data backed up?

These are important things to know. If you're going to lose important data, I will coach you one way. If you everything is backed up, I will coach you another way.

No did  not get disc when purchased. Not sure if this is policy with the company or not but no one I know got one either. I found a small icon right hand bottom corner and is for shut down. Hit restart and I got in. It seems to be starting normally now but still not 100 per cent. Little things, open right hand menu and everytime move cursor on it lose it. I am only running Avast now and Ccleaner. As well revo but planning on getting rid of it too. Not sure what else to do.Thanks for being here for me.

Unfortunate that you were not provided with the disc's.

At this point, I don't think your issues are Malware related. I'm inclined to think that you have either Hardware or Operating System related difficulties. Perhaps you should consider opening topic in either of those areas. I'm thinking that is your best next step.
