I can't type or do anything on my computer. It starts to boot up then a error message comes up and then another message comes up saying preparing automatic repairs. It just keeps doing that over and over!

We possibly have crossed wires here as you need to create the Puppy Linux tool on a working computer and then use it to access the data on the non working computer, have you done and tried this.

 

Puppy Linux uses the computers memory to function and not the HDD btw.

can you try this, start tapping the F8 key on the keyboard and with your other hand press the power button to turn on the laptop while still tapping the F8 key, after a short amount of time it should take you to a menu, if the repair message comes up then you can stop tapping the key because it didn't work.

I tried it and it didn't work. I tried everything including thT puppy thing and it did work either.

could well be the hard drive received some physical damage in the fall and some data was corrupted, so this data needs to be re-written to other undamaged parts of the drive and why it's now trying to repair itself.
 
i think i'd let it run overnight if needed and see if it can fix itself, if not then you may need to reinstall the operating system or even replace the hard drive and install the operating system.
 
you can always test the laptop by using another pc to download and create a linux live cd and then boot that on your laptop to check everything else works fine and it is just a hard drive/os problem like i believe.
 

and try letting it run to to see if windows could fix itself?
 
failing that tho, until you can get some sort of key combo's to work just after powering on the laptop then i don't think there is going to be much we can do to help you fix things.
 

the puppy cd  (checked to be bootable and working on another pc i hope?) probably doesn't work because the cd/dvd drive is not first in the boot order.

from a manual i found online F12 is the key you need to keep tapping as soon as you start the laptop to open the boot menu options,

power on the laptop insert puppy cd and then restart the laptop, not forgetting to keep tapping the F12 key with luck the boot menu will show up and from there choose the cdrom/dvd option to make it boot the puppy cd in the laptops drive.

 

see if you can at least get puppy to boot and we'll carry on from there,

 

if you can't get the boot menu to show up try tapping F2 on startup and let us know if that does anything.

Alt+F10 = gateway recovery management

F2 = bios settings

F12 = boot order menu

Everything you suggested to do did not work. So I decided that I will take my laptop to the geek squad and see what they can do. Thank you for your help.

ok, sorry we couldn't be of more help, but like i said earlier there really is nothing you can do unless you can interrupt the startup process before it starts trying to load the os and goes through the repairing itself routine your seeing, and only way to do that is with tapping 1 or more key combo's as soon as you start the laptop, which isn't working for some unknown reason.

 

you could try connecting an external keyboard and see if you have better luck, but if that works then i'd say something was knocked loose with the laptops keyboard itself needing you to open it up and check anyway, so maybe geek squad or any other computer repair place would still be your best option if your not comfortable with opening up the laptop yourself.

 

 

another thing you could try would be to remove the hard drive, so when it starts up it would take you straight to bios/uefi because there would be no os to start booting, then you could make sure your cd drive was first boot option so your puppy live cd would boot, maybe from there we might have been able to do something after re-connecting the hard drive.

 

all just speculation on my part tho, so geek squad sounds like a good idea.
